   Access to HideIPVPN is conditional on an existing user account. The service generates this for the user and sends the access data to the specified email. It is not possible to log in to the application via Facebook or Google.

   The interface of the HideIPVPN application on a mobile device and a computer is almost identical in appearance. The app is only available in light mode, the user does not have the option to switch to dark mode. The home screen of the app displays an overview of the current status of the VPN connection.

   After selecting the location to connect to, the app connects immediately. A simple click on the on and off button can quickly connect to the last used option. Notifications inform the user about all events in the app, for example, notifications about establishing a VPN connection or disconnecting from the server. The whole application works smoothly, seamlessly and without any glitches.

   The application environment is translated into English only.

   For a quick connection, there is an automatic connection to the best server at the time. The user chooses the location from a list, with each entry showing the specific city where the server is located. Frequently used locations can be saved as favorites and then accessed more quickly.

   In the application settings HideIPVPN, automatic power-on and login can be enabled when the device boots. The HideIPVPN can automatically reconnect when the application is turned on or if the connection is lost. All of this can happen without the user having to interact with the app, and can be left minimized throughout use.

   Additionally, DNS leak protection can be enabled in the settings. This feature prevents information about the visited website from being leaked through the standard DNS server. A shortcoming is the missing kill switch function, which is at least partially replaced by the App killer. Through it, you can select apps that will automatically shut down if the VPN connection is lost and restart when the connection is re-established.

   The HideIPVPN lags behind in more advanced features such as whitelist. This feature allows you to choose applications that will connect directly to the Internet even when VPN protection is enabled.

   HideIPVPN does not limit the user by the amount of data transferred, it is standard for paid services.

   The speed of establishing a connection to the server did not deviate from normal, we did not notice any major difficulties. The average download speed achieved 10 Mb/s is very low. It will not be sufficient for playing ultra-high resolution 4k video (generally at least 50 Mbps is required) or Full HD video (where 20 Mbps is required). HideIPVPN is also unusable for downloading bulky files for this reason.

   The average upload speed 9 Mb/s is insufficient for any upload of larger files. For example, FastestVPN averaged 254 Mb/s in our test, while ExpressVPN achieved an average upload of 109 Mb/s.

   The response speed of 87 ms should be sufficient for smooth video calls without stuttering, although even in this parameter HideIPVPN has significant margins. For example, AdGuard VPN measured an average response of 7 ms, while Surfshark achieved an average of 10 ms. For response speed, a lower value is always better.

   In terms of transfer speeds, HideIPVPN is only sufficient for normal web browsing. For transferring large files or streaming video, we recommend that you prefer faster services such as NordVPN or CyberGhost VPN.

   HideIPVPN operates a network of 24 servers in 12 countries around the world. For a paid VPN, this is a very poor offering when, for example, Surfshark offers servers in 97 countries around the world.

   Servers HideIPVPN are mostly allocated in traditional countries such as the USA, Canada, UK, France or Germany. The server in New Zealand is missing from the offer, while Russia is available from countries with government censorship.

   Moreover, some servers are only virtual, where they are physically located in another country. In some cases, it can be difficult to circumvent the geoblock with them, as sites can detect the country where the server is physically located. The list of available sites in HideIPVPN does not distinguish virtual servers.

   All offered features and protocols are available on all servers. The HideIPVPN does not offer any servers specifically optimized for torrenting or unblocking video from streaming platforms, for example.

   HideIPVPN lags behind other services in security. The app only offers DNS leak protection, which prevents the user’s real IP address from being revealed and ensures anonymity while surfing the Internet. In the HideIPVPN browser extension, WebRTC blocking can be activated, making it impossible to detect the real IP address when using the browser.

   Kill switch is missing in the application, although it is one of the most important features along with DNS leak protection. In the event of a connection failure with the VPN server, it will immediately disconnect the device from the Internet, keeping the user’s real IP address and location hidden from the outside world. The kill switch function of HideIPVPN is partially replaced by the App killer, which terminates applications connected to the Internet in the event of a loss of connection to the server. It does restart them after the connection is re-established, but it cannot be considered a full replacement for the kill switch.

   Users of HideIPVPN can choose from five different protocols on the computer, OpenVPN, SSTP, IKEv2, L2TP and PPTP are available. The state-of-the-art WireGuard protocol is missing from the menu. Transmitted data is protected by 256-bit AES and 4096-bit RSA encryption. In the mobile app HideIPVPN, only the IKEv2 protocol is available.

   No advanced security features are offered by HideIPVPN. For example, multi-hop (also known as Double VPN), which routes connections through two different VPN servers simultaneously, is missing. This greatly improves the security of the transfer, but the downside is the lower connection speed.

   The HideIPVPN also lacks support for Tor connections, and user account security with two-factor password authentication is also unavailable.

   In our test, it only managed to unlock video from the YouTube platform. It couldn’t handle video from Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Disney Plus, HBO Max, and Hulu. In addition, the average download speed 10 Mb/s was insufficient for playing ultra-high-resolution 4k video.

   Some private networks run specially optimized servers for the purpose of unblocking streaming video. The HideIPVPN does not offer anything like this.

    Like most applications, HideIPVPN does not put excessive load on the device that would lead to difficulties in use.

    After shutting down, the application runs in the background, thus minimizing performance requirements as it only consumes RAM. It can be completely exited via the icon in the system tray. The mobile app HideIPVPN also runs in the background all the time.
