  1. VeePN: Fast and Secure VPN for Only $1.67 per Month

    • Torrenting banned on US servers
    • Affordable subscription price of $1.67 per month
    • Browser extensions independently audited
    • Unblocked all streaming platforms
    • Multi-hop connectivity is available in the app
    • Wide support for different platforms

VeePN is one of the lesser known VPNs, operated by VeePN Corp. registered in Panama. In our in-depth test, VeePN scored a fairly high 8.6/10, which puts it in #7 place among the 90 reviewed VPNs.

VeePN slightly loses out to the best services in terms of transfer speeds. Our measured download speeds of 77 Mb/s and upload speeds of 87 Mb/s are suitable for watching 4k video and transferring bulky files, but the top-ranked VPNs achieve even faster speeds. In addition, VeePN prohibits torrenting on all servers in the US.

VeePN also lost points in the rankings due to slow customer support, which took over two weeks to resolve our technical issues.

There are significantly more strengths, VeePN is above average in most features and parameters. The VPN has unblocked all streaming platforms including Netflix, YouTube, Amazon Prime Video, and Disney Plus.

VeePN is available on a wide range of platforms including Windows, Mac OS, Android and iOS. Of the alternative devices, VeePN can be used on Android TV or Apple TV smart TVs, Playstation and Xbox gaming consoles, and routers. The advantage is multi-hop support, where the app connects through two different VPN servers simultaneously.

Adding to VeePN‘s credibility are browser add-ons that are audited by the independent Cure53 organisation. The price of the most affordable VeePN subscription option is only $1.67 per month.

You can use a debit or credit card, PayPal or the cryptocurrencies Bitcoin, Dash, Ethereum and Ripple to pay for your subscription. VeePN Antivirus can be optionally added to the virtual private network.

The VeePN app is available for Windows, Mac OS and Linux computers, plus Android and iOS mobile devices. Among smart TVs and media centers, VeePN supports Android TV, Apple TV, Fire TV and Kodi, and Playstation and Xbox game consoles.

VeePN enables router-based operation, so you can easily protect all devices connected to your wi-fi network. To get it up and running, you need to insert an OpenVPN configuration into the router with your login credentials and the chosen server.

The browser extension is available for Chrome, Opera, Firefox, Edge, Brave and Vivaldi. The add-ons have been independently audited by Cure 53.

  4. VeePN App: User-Friendliness, Whitelist, Server Selection…

    • App Languages: 🇺🇸 English +10 more🇪🇸 Spanish 🇫🇷 French 🇵🇹 Portuguese 🇮🇹 Italian 🇨🇳 Chinese 🇷🇺 Russian 🇰🇷 Korean 🇦🇪 Arabic 🇮🇳 Hindi 🇮🇩 Indonesian
    • Whitelisting:
      Yes
Whitelisting is supported by 52 % of reviewed VPNs

The VeePN desktop application is clear and simple to use even for less experienced users. The environment is rendered in both light and dark modes, which can be switched between freely.

The list of servers is sorted alphabetically by country, and any location can be saved as a favorite and accessed more quickly next time. Some of the servers are directly optimized for streaming video and thus have a special category assigned to them. The choice of the connection location can be left to VeePN, where the application itself will select the fastest server at that moment.

The application environment is available in 11 languages.

In the VeePN application settings, a whitelist can be added for the split tunneling function. This allows selected applications to connect directly to the Internet even when VPN protection is activated.

VeePN supports automatic app launch and connection to the VPN server after the device boots. The disadvantage of this feature is that VeePN will run in the background all the time, which increases the performance requirements of the device.

  5. VeePN Connection Speed: Upload, Download & Latency

    • Traffic limit: Unlimited

    Download speed

    Upload speed

    Server latency

A VeePN subscription entitles the user to transfer unlimited data, among fee-based services this is the absolute standard.

We measured VeePN‘s transfer speeds continuously over several days and at different times of the day. We left the choice of a specific server up to the application; the published values represent the average of individual measurements.

VeePN‘s download speed reached 77 Mb/s, which is sufficient for ultra-high resolution video playback by a margin. In the context of the other VPNs reviewed, the download speed is above average, although we measured 352 Mb/s for FastestVPN, for example.

The upload speed of 87 Mb/s was also above average. VeePN is well suited for backing up bulky files or for video streamers. Here too, the best VPNs have even higher uploads. We measured an average upload of 254 Mb/s for the aforementioned FastestVPN.

The third important parameter is the response speed, which plays a role in video calls, online games and other activities where a quick response from the other party is expected. In VeePN, we measured an average response time of 12 ms, which can be described as top-notch. For response speed, lower is always better.

  6. VeePN Server Locations

    • Number of servers:
      2,500
The average number of servers for the reviewed VPNs is 1699.
    • Number of countries:

Africa 🇪🇬 Egypt 🇿🇦 South Africa
Oceania 🇦🇺 Australia 🇳🇿 New Zealand

VeePN operates 2,500 servers in 56 countries. Compared to the other services reviewed, this is an above-average variety.

VeePN has at least two servers located on each continent, with the widest selection traditionally in Europe and also in Asia. Belarus, Moldova, Costa Rica, Panama, Chile, Colombia, India, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam and Egypt round out the commonly available locations.

VeePN servers are also available in the USA, Canada, UK, Ireland, South Africa, Australia and New Zealand. Among the countries with censored internet, Russia, Turkey, the United Arab Emirates and the aforementioned Belarus are represented.

Generally, in less traditional countries, only a virtual server is available, with the hardware physically located in another location. The disadvantage of a virtual server is that some websites cannot correctly detect its location. Instead of the virtual one, they detect the physical location of the server, which can pose problems in circumventing the geo-block.

VeePN runs several servers specifically optimized for streaming, and they are visibly marked in the application. VeePN servers in the US do not allow torrenting, otherwise all features and protocols are available in all locations.

  7. VeePN Security Features: DNS Leak Protection, Kill Switch…

    • DNS leak protection :
      Yes
DNS leak protection is offered by 92% of the reviewed VPNs.
    • Kill Switch:
      Yes
Kill Switch is supported by 87% of the reviewed VPNs.
    • Multi-Hop:
      Yes
Multi-Hop connection is offered by 20 % of the VPNs reviewed.
    • Tor:
      Yes
Tor support is offered by 19 % of the reviewed VPNs.

VeePN‘s primary security feature is DNS leak protection, which hides the user’s real IP address from the ISP or website operator. During our testing, it proved to be functional when no leaks occurred.

An important security feature is the kill switch, which disconnects the entire device from the Internet in case the connection to the VPN server is lost. This prevents the possible disclosure of the user’s real IP address and location. The VeePN application has implemented it.

In the application settings you can choose your preferred security protocol, VeePN supports the modern and fast WireGuard, the widely used OpenVPN or the already slightly outdated IKEv2. The protocol menu is rounded out by Shadowsocks, which was created in 2012 to allow bypassing the Chinese firewall.

The transmitted data is protected by highly secure 256-bit AES encryption, which is also used to secure military and banking systems. Alternatively, the ChaCha20 encryption algorithm can be used.

Among the superior features, VeePN supports multi-hop, which is also known as Double VPN. Its principle is to connect through two different VPN servers simultaneously, so that if the first layer of protection is breached, a second server protects the user. The disadvantage of Double VPN over connecting through a single server can be the lower transfer rate.

    VeePN also supports Tor traffic.

A VeePN user account cannot be protected by two-factor password authentication.

  8. VeePN & Streaming: Netflix, YouTube, Amazon Prime…

    • Amazon Prime:
      Yes
Amazon Prime streaming is supported by 52 % of reviewed VPNs
    • Disney+:
      Yes
Disney+ streaming is supported by 53 % of reviewed VPNs
    • HBO:
      Yes
HBO streaming is supported by 57 % of reviewed VPNs
    • Hulu:
      Yes
Hulu streaming is supported by 49 % of reviewed VPNs
    • Netflix:
      Yes
Netflix streaming is supported by 67 % of reviewed VPNs
    • YouTube:
      Yes
YouTube streaming is supported by 97 % of reviewed VPNs

VeePN is very usable for unblocking movies and TV shows from streaming platforms.

In our test, we unblocked videos available only from the US on YouTube, Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Disney Plus, HBO Max, and Hulu without any problems. Video playback was smooth and without an annoying wait for content to load. We were also able to watch movies from other countries on Netflix.

The VeePN app itself recommends servers that are best suited for streaming video. You can also choose others. Our average download speed of 77 Mb/s is sufficient for watching 4k video. For this, a minimum connection speed of 50 Mbps is stated as necessary.

  9. Features of VeePN: AdBlock, Static IP…

    • Blocks Ads:
      Yes
Ad blocking is offered by 44 % of the VPNs reviewed.
    • Blocks Malware:
      No
Malware blocking is offered by 33 % of the VPNs reviewed.
    • Blocks Trackers:
      Yes
Trackers blocking is offered by 38 % of the VPNs reviewed.

Among the extra features VeePN supports ad blocking and tracker blocking. Malware blocking is not available in the VPN app, it can be purchased as part of the VeePN Antivirus product for an additional fee.

Monitoring for personal data leaks to the dark web is not offered by VeePN; the feature is available as part of a subscription with competitor NordVPN, for example. VeePN also lacks support for camouflage mode, which can conceal active VPN protection from both ISPs and website operators. Camouflage mode is useful in environments where VPN use is penalized, and it also helps to increase the success rate of accessing geo-block-protected content.

Dedicated IP addresses are not available for free or at an additional cost with VeePN. No additional features can be purchased either.

  10. VeePN‘s CPU usage and App Performance

The impact of VeePN on the computer load is minimal. The CPU power consumption rose to 2.8% only during the connection to the server, after which it dropped again to a negligible value.

In the idle state the application consumed approximately 36 MB of RAM, after the connection was established the load increased to 70 MB. Compared to other VPNs, the amount of reserved RAM is slightly higher, while the CPU requirements are lower. On disk, VeePN for Windows takes up approximately 155 MB.

To minimize the load, you can disable the automatic launch of the application and the connection to the server after the device starts. After closing with a cross, the application still runs in the background, and you can exit it completely via the icon in the system tray.

  11. VeePN Torrenting Servers

    • Torrenting servers:
      Yes
Torrenting support is offered by 89 % of the reviewed VPNs.

VeePN is well used for torrenting. The app is equipped with DNS leak protection and a kill switch feature, so the real IP address remains hidden from other torrenting users.

P2P data transfers are allowed by VeePN on all servers except US servers, where torrenting is blocked. The ban is the result of pressure from movie studios and the VPN operator’s fear of costly lawsuits.

Torrenting works on all other servers, although none of them are specifically optimised for this type of traffic. Our measured download (77 Mb/s) and upload (87 Mb/s) speeds are sufficient for torrent sharing.

  12. What Is the Country of Origin Of VeePN?

    • VPN Provider: VeePN Corp.
    • Country of origin: 🇵🇦 Panama

VeePN is operated by VeePN Corp. which is based in Panama City, Panama, Central America. Founded in 2017, the company has been in the business of running VPNs since the beginning, to which it later added the development of its own antivirus software. VeePN Corp. is not owned by any multinational company.

Panama is a good choice for the purpose of operating a VPN, as the legislation there is favorable to the protection of user privacy. The country is not part of the 14 Eyes alliance, whose intelligence services monitor Internet traffic and have the right to release data on specific users if suspected.

  13. VeePN and Privacy: Logging Policy, Security Issues…

    • No-Logs Policy:
      Yes
The No-Logs Policy is followed by 78% of reviewed VPNs.

VeePN states that it strictly adheres to a zero-logging policy. Thus, when using VeePN, no user IP addresses, visited websites, transmitted data or connection timestamps are stored.

The information collected includes only that which is necessary for user account management and subscription administration. This includes email address and payment information, which may be shared with third parties depending on the method chosen. VeePN also stores information about the frequency of use of the application, which is intended to help optimise it.

The operator of VeePN is based in Panama, which is one of the best possible locations. The country’s current legislation does not require the collection of user information and is generally in favour of protecting user privacy. Since VeePN does not release any sensitive information, it has nothing to give out in case of a police or court challenge.

The good news is that VeePN‘s browser add-ons have been audited. Even more confidence in the service would be helped by a full privacy and security audit of the application, as NordVPN or Surfshark regularly undergo.

So far, there are no known leaks of user data. There is a publicly available Warrant Canary on the VeePN website in which the VPN operator declares that it has not received any requests to release users’ personal data on a given day. This circumvents the prohibition on informing the public about received challenges, Warrant Canary is published by private networks that put transparency and security first.

The next step to increase user security could be to use servers exclusively with RAM memory, which does not allow for long-term data storage. According to available information, VeePN does not use servers with RAM memory.

  14. VeePN Support: Chat, e-mail…

VeePN subscribers can use live chat to contact customer support, which is available 24 hours a day. Other users are referred to either the form on the VeePN website or to the email address support@veepn.com. During the testing of the service, we sent several queries to support and received responses within a few hours.

We have had good experiences with the use of the 30 days money-back guarantee, where we have been satisfied quickly and without unnecessary complications.

The support staff were friendly and helpful, however, they were not knowledgeable when dealing with more complex technical issues. After purchasing a VeePN subscription, we had a problem logging into the app, which resulted in not being able to use the VPN. After contacting support, we were told that they would get back to us once they had resolved the issue.

It took 18 days to resolve the issue, during which time we received 15 emails assuring us that they were working on a fix. VeePN could not be used during this time. Eventually we were advised to uninstall and reinstall the app, after which the VPN worked without any problems.
