Trust zone VPN 2024 Review: 5 Cons and 5 Pros

Trust zone VPN 2024 Review: 5 Cons and 5 Pros

★★★☆
  1. Trust.zone: Secure VPN Services with Certain Limitations

    • Download (22 Mb/s) and upload (21 Mb/s) speeds are slow
    • The server network is small (only 200 servers)
    • Not successful at unblocking streaming platforms
    • Does not block ads, malware, and trackers
    • Only allows for the protection of up to 5 devices simultaneously
    • Offers a free trial version for 3 days
    • Alerts users in case of any attempts to access their data
    • Automatically switches between servers
    • Supports multi-hop connections
    • Operational in China

Trust.zone is a mid-tier VPN service, established by Trusted Solutions Ltd. The company is headquartered in Seychelles, a location that enhances user security and privacy. The service was launched in 2014.

Trust.zone can be accessed through a regular subscription, and a free trial version is available for 3 days.

Like all paid VPN services, Trust.zone does not set data transfer limits. Its key features include automatic server switching and functionality in China.

A distinctive feature of Trust.zone is its Warrant Canary, which notifies users if a higher authority requests their sensitive data.

Drawbacks of Trust.zone include a small server network (with only 200 servers) which could account for its subpar connection speed. Our tests showed average download and upload speeds of merely 22 Mb/s and 21 Mb/s respectively. Furthermore, the maximum of 5 devices that the VPN can be used on simultaneously is below the industry standard.

Trust.zone also falls short in supporting most streaming platforms and lacks features such as ad blocking or whitelisting.

Security is maintained through 256-bit encryption along with OpenVPN, L2TP/IPSec, IKEv2, and WireGuard protocols.

  2. Trust.zone Subscription: Discount Code, Free Trial, Money Back Guarantee…

    • Your Price: $9.5380% off  $1.91 /mo (5 devices)

      Ripple :No

Trust.zone offers three different subscription options, which vary only in duration, price, and the number of devices that can be connected.

You can purchase monthly, yearly, or two-year subscriptions. As with all similar services, the longest subscription period provides the best value for money. An 80% off is available for the two-year prepaid option, which also includes two months of free usage. This price is competitive with other VPN services.

Subscriptions can be effortlessly set up on the Trust.zone website. After selecting the duration, you can add features such as a static IP address (available in 7 countries), port forwarding with a static IP, DDoS protection, and 3 additional connectable devices.

Trust.zone accepts debit and credit cards, PayPal, PayPro Global services, and cryptocurrencies, including Bitcoin. When subscribing, you’ll need to provide and verify your billing country and email address.

All subscription options come with a 10 days of money-back guarantee. To claim it, you must contact support through the form on the website before the deadline. A maximum of 1GB of data is necessary for a successful claim, and refunds are processed within 20 days.

Trust.zone does not offer a free version. However, a trial version is available for 3 days, and no payment is required during this period. The trial version of Trust.zone provides 154 server locations, 1 connectable device, and up to 1GB of data usage. An email address is required to use the trial version.

The best-value two-year subscription from Trust.zone can be used on 5 devices simultaneously. Monthly and yearly subscriptions can only be used on 3 devices. Compared to other services, these are below average. For example, Surfshark offers unlimited device connections.

Device compatibility for Trust.zone is robust. The app is available for Windows, macOS, Android, iOS, and Linux devices.

Trust.zone supports Fire TV in the smart TV category and Xbox and PlayStation game consoles. A notable feature of Trust.zone is its support for router traffic, which means all devices connected to the network can be protected. In terms of quota, the router is considered a single device.

Trust.zone offers extensions for Chrome, Opera, Firefox, Vivaldi, and Brave browsers.

In general, Trust.zone’s device support is quite impressive. Although the limit of 5 simultaneously connectable devices might be inadequate for some users, this can be extended for an additional fee or by running the VPN on a router. Learn how to set up a VPN on a router.

  4. Trust.zone App: User-friendliness, whitelist, server selection…

    • App Languages: 🇺🇸 English +5 more🇫🇷 French 🇩🇪 German 🇷🇺 Russian 🇪🇸 Spanish 🇹🇷 Turkish
    • Whitelisting:
      No
Whitelisting is supported by 52 % of reviewed VPNs

Installing the Trust.zone app is straightforward. The Trust.zone website provides setup instructions should users encounter difficulties.

The app’s interface is available in 6 languages. Only the light theme is supported; there is no dark mode.

The desktop application interface of Trust.zone is clear but can occasionally be unintuitive. When the application is launched, the main window displays a shield symbol and the current IP address. To connect automatically to the optimal VPN server, you need to click on the label below the shield symbol.

The app includes an auto-connect feature that links to the server as soon as the device starts. If users prefer to manually select the server location, they must first click on a separate tab. Servers are sorted alphabetically and grouped by continent. The most frequently used servers are displayed at the top.

Once a VPN connection is established, the Trust.zone icon with the shield turns green.

Trust.zone stands out as one of the few VPNs that can independently select a new server and connect to it in the event of a connection failure. However, it does not include a whitelist feature, which usually allows you to specify apps and websites that should bypass the VPN connection.

The Trust.zone app settings also allow you to disable the kill switch feature and switch between protocols. WireGuard, OpenVPN, IKEv2, and L2TP/IPSec are supported.

  5. Trust.zone Connection Speed: Upload, Download & Latency

    • Traffic limit: Unlimited

    Download speed

    Upload speed

    Server latency

Trust.zone doesn’t limit the amount of data transferred, a standard feature among paid VPNs.

During testing, Trust.zone showed lower transfer speeds compared to its competitors. We recorded an average download speed of 22 Mb/s and upload speed of 21 Mb/s. These low speeds could potentially hinder 4K video playback.

The response time of 44 ms is also higher than Surfshark‘s 10 ms or NordVPN‘s NordVPN. For response time, as opposed to download or upload speed, a lower value is preferable.

Our results when testing the speed of connection establishment were inconsistent. Some servers provided adequate values, while others lagged compared to competitors.

Overall, connection speed is one of Trust.zone’s weak points. Users requiring maximum connection speed may want to consider other VPN services such as Proton VPN Plus or ExpressVPN.

  6. Trust.zone Server Locations

    Africa 🇿🇦 South Africa
Oceania 🇦🇺 Australia 🇳🇿 New Zealand

Trust.zone provides 200 servers in 37 countries globally. The server network is relatively small for a paid VPN and may contribute to the slower transfer speeds.

Server locations are well spread out across all continents. Trust.zone has servers in the US, Canada, UK, Ireland, Australia, and New Zealand. A Trust.zone server is also located in Russia, a country known for its government censorship.

None of the CyberGhost VPN (9,264 servers) and NordVPN (5,813 servers).

  7. Trust.zone Security Features: DNS Leak Protection, Kill Switch…

    • DNS leak protection :
      Yes
DNS leak protection is offered by 92% of the reviewed VPNs.
    • Kill Switch:
      Yes
Kill Switch is supported by 87% of the reviewed VPNs.
    • Multi-Hop:
      Yes
Multi-Hop connection is offered by 20 % of the VPNs reviewed.
    • Tor:
      No
Tor support is offered by 19 % of the reviewed VPNs.

Trust.zone provides fundamental security features, including DNS leak protection. Our test verified this feature’s functionality, as we didn’t detect any leaks.

Trust.zone offers a kill switch feature, which needs to be enabled first in the application settings. This feature disconnects your device from the internet if the VPN server connection is interrupted, safeguarding the user’s IP address and location, and ensuring that the transmitted data remains secure.

We found it commendable that Trust.zone supports multi-hop connections, a feature some VPN providers call Double VPN. This feature allows users to sequentially connect through two different VPN servers in separate locations. So, if the first VPN layer’s protection is breached, the second connection continues to secure the user.

Trust.zone uses military-grade 256-bit encryption to protect data transmission. The mobile app supports L2TP/IPSec and OpenVPN protocols, and IKEv2 and WireGuard are also available in other applications. All implemented protocols are secure. Some VPN providers like NordVPN and AdGuard VPN develop their proprietary protocols, which are often deemed even more secure.

Trust.zone does not offer two-factor authentication at account login or Tor support.

  8. Trust.zone & Streaming: Netflix, YouTube, Amazon Prime…

    • Amazon Prime:
      No
Amazon Prime streaming is supported by 52 % of reviewed VPNs
    • Disney+:
      No
Disney+ streaming is supported by 53 % of reviewed VPNs

Hulu streaming is supported by 49 % of reviewed VPNs
    • Netflix:
      No
Netflix streaming is supported by 67 % of reviewed VPNs
    • YouTube:
      No
YouTube streaming is supported by 97 % of reviewed VPNs

Trust.zone is not suited for unblocking streaming platforms.

There’s no assurance of accessing content from YouTube and HBO Max, and our attempts have only been partly successful. We failed to access streams from Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Disney Plus, Hulu, and BBC iPlayer platforms.

Trust.zone does not provide servers specially optimized for streaming video. Users can attempt to use any available server for this. Some platform operators block known IP addresses of VPN services. In such cases, disconnecting and reconnecting the VPN could lead to a change in IP address, which may be beneficial.

A significant limitation of using Trust.zone for streaming video is its slow connection speed. A connection speed of at least 50 Mbps is recommended for viewing 4K video, while Trust.zone registered an average download speed of only 22 Mb/s.

For video unblocking, we suggest other services. The best VPNs for Netflix include CyberGhost VPN and Private Internet Access.

  9. Features of Trust.zone: AdBlock, Static IP…

    • Blocks Ads:
      No
Ad blocking is offered by 44 % of the VPNs reviewed.
    • Blocks Malware:
      No
Malware blocking is offered by 33 % of the VPNs reviewed.
    • Blocks Trackers:
      No
Trackers blocking is offered by 38 % of the VPNs reviewed.

When it comes to available features, Trust.zone lags behind many other VPNs.

It doesn’t offer ad-blocking, malware or tracker blocking features. Trust.zone also doesn’t support whitelisting, a function that enables users to select apps or websites to connect directly without using a VPN.

However, Trust.zone does deserve recognition for its support of Double Hop, where the connection is made through two different VPN servers simultaneously. This approach enhances security but may slow down the connection.

Additional features, including a static IP address, port forwarding with static IP, and DDoS protection can be added to Trust.zone for an extra charge. Some users may prefer the static IP address, which stays consistent with every connection.

No other features are available in Trust.zone applications.

  10. Trust.zone‘s CPU usage and App Performance

Trust.zone‘s desktop application demonstrates average load when compared to other VPNs. The application is user-friendly, with an installation package size of about 30 MB.

You can alleviate the device load by disabling certain features. It can be particularly beneficial to disable the automatic connection after startup, which results in the app continuously running in the background.

  11. Trust.zone Torrenting Servers

    • Torrenting servers:
      Yes
Torrenting support is offered by 89 % of the reviewed VPNs.

All Trust.zone servers support P2P transfers and torrenting. However, the shared files must not contain copyrighted content, or torrenting is not allowed.

Effective torrenting requires a high transfer rate. During our testing of Trust.zone, we recorded average download speeds of 22 Mb/s and average upload speeds of 21 Mb/s, both of which are below average when compared to other VPNs.

For higher upload speeds, we recommend considering other VPNs for torrenting, such as CyberGhost VPN or Ivacy VPN.

  12. What is the country of origin of Trust.zone?

    • VPN Provider: Trusted Solutions ltd.
    • Country of origin: 🇸🇨 Seychelles

Trust.zone is managed by Trusted Solutions Ltd., a company dedicated to addressing issues and optimizing costs related to internet usage. Their VPN service was launched in 2014.

The company is headquartered in Seychelles, which is not a member of the 5/9/14 Eyes alliance. This alliance consists of countries that monitor their citizens’ internet activities and share the data with each other. Thus, being based in Seychelles does not pose an increased risk to users.

  13. Trust.zone and Privacy: Logging Policy, Security Issues…

    • No-Logs Policy:
      Yes
The No-Logs Policy is followed by 78% of reviewed VPNs.

Trust.zone implements a no-logs policy. According to their privacy policy, they do not store any VPN traffic data, including logs of visited websites, IP addresses, or connection times.

To maintain user accounts, Trust.zone collects data such as email addresses and chosen payment methods. Third-party payment processors may also store this information.

Trust.zone‘s website employs cookies, which can be blocked in your browser settings. All collected data is anonymized.

Trust.zone supports the Warrant Canary method, signed with a PGP key. This feature allows users to easily verify if authorities have requested their data. This comes in the form of a daily notification assuring that everything is fine. If the notification doesn’t appear, users can assume that their data has been requested.

Trust.zone claims that it hasn’t responded to any requests for user data release throughout its operational period.

In our tests of Trust.zone, we detected no DNS request leaks.

An independent audit would contribute positively to enhancing Trust.zone‘s credibility. However, no such audit has been conducted yet.

  14. Trust.zone Support: Chat, e-mail…

The Trust.zone website offers tutorials and answers to frequently asked questions in the FAQ section. A database of guides is available to users, providing instructions for using VPNs on different device types.

Their blog regularly publishes articles about VPNs and internet security.

Direct support is accessible from Monday to Friday via a form on the website. Users can expect a response within a few days at their provided email address. Other support methods such as live chat or phone are not available.

  15. Trust.zone FAQ

    Is Trust.zone free?
Trust.zone is a paid service, with the most affordable subscription costing $1.91 per month. While Trust.zone does not provide a free trial, a 3 days of trial version is available.

This version has the same features as the paid version but limits you to one device and 154 servers, with a maximum data transfer of 1 GB. The trial version only requires an email address, not payment details.

    Does Trust.zone function in China?
Yes, Trust.zone does function in China, but certain adjustments need to be made in the application settings. Users are required to connect to the server nearest to them in China, activate DNS protection, and modify the port being used to 443, 33, or 22. Comprehensive instructions can be found on the Trust.zone website.
    Is Trust.zone safe?
We consider Trust.zone to be fairly safe. The application includes significant features such as a kill switch, DNS protection, and multi-hop connections.

It doesn’t keep logs of VPN traffic and operates from Seychelles, a country that doesn’t exchange user data with the 5/9/14 Eyes alliance.
Trust.zone also offers a Warrant Canary feature that notifies users if their data has piqued the interest of authorities.

During our evaluation, we detected no DNS request leaks, and we have no knowledge of any previous incidents involving user data leaks.
