   To select a specific connection location, you must first select it from the list and then additionally click on the button to turn it on. Connecting to the server is fast, having usually taken only a few seconds. Using the on/off toggle button, you can quickly connect to the last selected site.

   The application notifies all important events via notifications. For example, information about successful connection or disconnection from the server. During testing, the Windows application worked smoothly without any stuttering or other difficulties.

   For fast connections, you can choose to automatically connect to the fastest server at the time. Unfortunately, you cannot add individual sites to your favorites, you always have to manually select one from a rather long list.

   In the Panda Dome VPN settings, you can activate the automatic connection to the VPN when you turn on the device without any necessary interaction. The application runs in the background in minimized mode during the entire period of use, and its complete termination is possible via the icon in the system tray.

   Panda Dome VPN lacks the whitelist feature, which allows you to select apps that will connect directly to the internet even when VPN protection is activated.

   Alongside the VPN, Panda Dome VPN has an integrated antivirus that continuously detects and blocks malware on the device. Optionally, devices connected to the USB port can also be scanned and all running processes on the device can be monitored. In case the device is infected with a virus, a rescue backup can be created on the USB drive to retrieve the settings and remove the malware from the device.

   Establishing a connection to the VPN server was quick and seamless during our testing. We measured the speed repeatedly using the automatic server selection, and below are the averages of the individual values.

   Download speeds are well above average for Panda Dome VPN. We measured 388 Mb/s, which is an excellent value for downloading bulky files or watching ultra-high definition video. For it, at least 50 Mbps is stated as necessary.

   The upload speed of 91 Mb/s is also above average, which is sufficient for backing up bulky files.

   The response time of the servers reached 21 ms on average. This makes the Panda Dome VPN usable for computer gaming, video chatting, or other activities prone to response speeds.    Most of Panda Dome VPN‘s servers are located in Europe, with a fairly wide selection of locations on each continent. There are some locations that are not common among VPN providers. These include Andorra, Malta, Monaco, Guatemala, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Chile, Cambodia, Pakistan, Nepal, and Egypt.

   Panda Dome VPN servers are also available in the US, Canada, UK, Ireland, South Africa, Australia and New Zealand. Of the countries with censored internet, Russia, Turkey and the United Arab Emirates are represented.

   Nowhere does Panda Dome VPN specify which servers are physical and which are virtual. In general, it can be assumed that especially servers allocated in exotic countries are only virtual. This means that the hardware is physically located in a different country than the one the application connects to. This practice can cause problems in geo-block circumvention, as some websites misjudge the user’s location.

   There are no servers specifically optimized for torrenting or gaming, for example, in the Panda Dome VPN offering. All provided features and protocols are fully supported on all servers.

   In terms of security features, Panda Dome VPN ranks among the worst services we’ve tested. The app lacks reliable DNS leak protection that could hide the user’s real IP address, thus ensuring anonymity while using the internet.

   The app also lacks a relatively common kill switch feature that disconnects the device from the internet when the connection to the VPN server is lost. This ensures that the user’s IP address and actual location are not revealed.

   When it comes to the security protocols used, Panda Dome VPN is not very sharing. In the app, one can only read that it uses the now obsolete IPSec protocol. The transmitted data is protected by 256-bit AES encryption, which is very secure.

   Missing from the advanced security features of Panda Dome VPN is the multi-hop connection, for which the Double VPN label is sometimes used. It is offered by NordVPN or Proton VPN Plus, for example. The principle of multi-hop is to connect through two different VPN servers at the same time, so that if the first layer of protection is breached, a second layer still protects the user. The downside of this feature can be lower connection speeds.

   Panda Dome VPN doesn’t support Tor connections either. Access to the user account can be secured via two-factor password authentication through a custom app.

   Although Panda Dome VPN doesn’t run any servers specifically optimized for streaming, we were able to unblock most services in our test.

   As a result, we were able to play normally inaccessible foreign libraries on Netflix, YouTube, Disney Plus, Amazon Prime Video, and Hulu. The only platform that blocked the connection was HBO.

   Video playback was smooth and there was no annoying stuttering or loading of content during playback. The credit for this can be given to the achieved download speed (388 Mb/s on average), which is sufficient for streaming 4k video. The minimum required for this is 50 Mbps.

   Some streaming platforms combat the use of VPNs by blocking the IP addresses of these services. There are two solutions. Sometimes it is sufficient to simply disconnect and reconnect from the server, which may result in the IP address changing to a different, non-blocked one. The second solution is to prefer premium services like Surfshark or NordVPN, which have many IP addresses and stream reliably.

   Panda Dome VPN offers some extra features that are not among the usual features of VPN apps.

   One of them is a built-in antivirus at the base that continuously scans devices for malware. If a threat is found, it will block it. With the app, you can quickly check all newly connected USB devices such as flash drives or phones for threats. However, Panda Dome VPN cannot block ads or trackers.

The integrated antivirus, which continuously scans the hard drive, also had no impact.

    After the crossbar is turned off, the Panda Dome VPN application continues to run in the background, where it only reduces its demands and uses only RAM. Its complete termination is possible via the Task Manager. There is no option to completely exit the app in hidden icons, this is also true for the mobile version.
