  1. Atlas VPN Free: 3 Disadvantages & 3 Advantages

    • AtlasVPN can store more user data
    • Little configuration and customization options

AtlasVPN doesn’t limit the number of connected devices, even in the free version. You don’t even need to create an account with the free VPN.

AtlasVPN only offers its VPN program for Windows, macOS, iOS, and Android, which can be a hindrance for users who have smart TVs, chromebooks, or other devices.

Atlas VPN can’t be used as a browser extension either.

  4. Atlas VPN Free App: User-friendliness, whitelist, server selection…

    • Traffic limit: Unlimited
    • App Languages: 🇺🇸 English
    • Whitelisting:
      No
Whitelisting is supported by 52 % of reviewed VPNs

The AtlasVPN desktop app offers the option to automatically turn on when the device starts up. The whitelist feature is not available. The only language the app offers is English. While some competing VPNs offer more options for setup and user customization, here Atlas VPN only offers a simple base.

The apps are easy to use and intuitive, offering only a light mode.

  5. Atlas VPN Free Connection Speed: Upload, Download & Latency

    Download speed

    Upload speed

    Server latency

AtlasVPN free is one of the few free VPNs with no data transfer limit. Although the free version is supposed to be slower at the expense of the paid version, we measured very good connection speeds.

In our test, we opted for a closer Dutch server. Surprisingly, the speed was up to several times faster than needed for smooth playback of 4K content. However, the speed was not consistent during testing as individual measurements varied significantly.

When connected to the US server, the speed was significantly slower, but sufficient for playing FullHD content.

  6. Atlas VPN Free Server Locations

    • Number of servers:
      3
The average number of servers for the reviewed VPNs is 1436.
    • Number of countries:
      2
The average number of countries available for the reviewed VPNs is 38.
    Europe 🇳🇱 Netherlands
    North America 🇺🇸 USA
    South America
    Asia
    Africa
    Oceania

Atlas VPN Free only offers three locations in two countries, the United States and the Netherlands. Here, it is among the average in the competition of free VPNs.

Because of the small selection of countries, AtlasVPN’s Free VPN isn’t very good for getting around internet restrictions, as you have very limited options for unblocking content.

    • DNS leak protection :

DNS leak protection is offered by 95% of the reviewed VPNs.

Both the mobile and desktop versions of the app offer a VPN kill switch to protect against user data leakage in the event of a connection failure. DNS is also protected against leaks in Atlas VPN thanks to its own DNS library.

Dangerous site blocking is not offered in the free version of the VPN. Multiple VPN connections are also not offered in AtlasVPN.

VPN security is taken care of by AES-256 encryption along with IPSec/IKEv2 and WireGuard protocol.

AtlasVPN had its iOS app security and APIs tested by an independent cyber security company, and no major vulnerabilities were found during the test. The vulnerabilities found have been fixed.

More advanced features, such as tracker protection and ad blocking, are available in the paid version of the VPN.

  10. Atlas VPN Free‘s CPU usage and App Performance

App load is among the above average, with AtlasVPN claiming more performance than most competing VPNs, both when the app is on and even more so when connected to the VPN. Still, during use, the app didn’t cause any noticeable device slowdown.

However, when you’re not using AtlasVPN, there’s no harm in turning the app off altogether. You can do so in the taskbar or task manager.

  11. Atlas VPN Free Torrenting Servers

    • Torrenting servers:
      Yes
Torrenting support is offered by 86 % of the reviewed VPNs.

AtlasVPN does not support P2P torrent for free servers. If you want to use a VPN for protection when downloading torrent, then you need to choose a paid subscription Atlas VPN Pro.

  12. What is the country of origin of Atlas VPN Free?

    • Country of origin: 🇺🇸 USA

Atlas VPN is owned by Peakstar Technologies Inc. The company is headquartered in the United States, which falls under the so-called Five-Eyes countries. These are countries that are known for surveillance of not only their own citizens by secret services and passing information across the group.

However, as long as the service doesn’t store logs of activity while connected, which Atlas VPN doesn’t, it’s safe to use the provider’s network from that country as well.

AtlasVPN also has a special section on its site with transparent data on the number of government or national security requests to release information about its users. At the time of testing, AtlasVPN states that no user information has ever been requested from them, nor has any data been stolen.

  13. Atlas VPN Free and Privacy: Logging Policy, Security Issues…

    • No-Logs Policy:
      Yes
The No-Logs Policy is followed by 86% of reviewed VPNs.
    • Multi-Hop:
      No

Atlas VPN does not store any logs of the sites visited or user activity when connecting through the VPN. Therefore, no sensitive data is stored. Data stored includes information about app usage and basic data about device type, model, operating system, brand name, device ID, language, time zone, and connection city. It also includes analytics data about the installation method and source and advertising IDs for the purpose of measuring the success of campaigns.

The non-sensitive data that AtlasVPN stores is more than most VPN providers. This can be a hindrance for people who want maximum privacy.

  14. Atlas VPN Free Support: Chat, e-mail…

Support is offered on the Atlas VPN website with a database of tutorials and solutions to common problems. You will also find frequently asked questions about Atlas VPN. The database isn’t extensive, this form of support is supplemented by 24/7 live support via email.
