Speedify VPN: Why Did It Get a 6.6/10 Rating in the Test?

    • The provider is based in the U.S., a member of the 5 Eyes alliance
    • The app records a large amount of user data
    • Only 200 servers in 36 countries
    • Failed to unblock Amazon Prime, HBO and Disney+ in the test
    • Supports camouflage mode to hide VPN connections
    • Clear app that is not demanding on device performance
    • Offers unconventional additional features

Speedify VPN is operated by Connectify Inc, an American company based in Philadelphia. The VPN offers decent protection, a camouflage mode, and a clear and uncluttered app that is not power-hungry. In our test, it received an overall score of 6.6/10, ranking #59 out of 90 reviewed VPNs.

It lost points in the VPN rankings due to its relatively small network of servers, of which there are only 200 in 36 countries. For example, Surfshark operates servers in 97 different locations. Of the foreign streaming platform libraries, Speedify VPN was only able to unblock Netflix and YouTube.

Speedify VPN blocks torrenting on most servers, and the upload speed of 56 Mb/s can also only be described as average.

Compared to competing services, Speedify VPN loses out in terms of value for money, $7.50 per month for the most affordable option is a lot. NordVPN, for example, costs only $4.04 per month. The disadvantage for some users may be the US-based 5 Eyes alliance.

The advantage of Speedify VPN is a clear and appearance-friendly app that is not demanding on device performance. Thus, it can be used on older devices without any problems. The highest available 256-bit AES encryption and a custom security protocol are supported.

The average download speed of 113 Mb/s can be considered solid. It is also worth mentioning the support for camouflage mode or bonding, which allows you to combine multiple Internet connections simultaneously, thus maximizing the connection speed.

Speedify VPN offers separate subscriptions for individuals, families, and work teams. The regular subscription is for a single user and can be used on up to 5 devices simultaneously. The family subscription option allows for up to four accounts, while the team subscription parameters are always individual.

The single-user subscription is available in two variants. Less convenient is the continuously paid monthly subscription for $14.99, which can be terminated at any time. More cost-effective is the annual subscription to Speedify VPN paid for the entire period in advance, with a monthly fee of $7.50. Even longer subscriptions are available during occasional limited-time promotions at more affordable prices.

You can use a debit or credit card, or PayPal to pay for your subscription. All orders are covered by a 30 days of money back guarantee, simply contact customer support to take advantage of this.

The trial version of Speedify VPN is available for 7 days exclusively on the Google Play Store or App Store. You can also use the free variant of Speedify VPN Free to try out the service, which has a few limitations compared to the paid variant.

With a regular account, Speedify VPN can be used on up to 5 devices at the same time. In the context of other VPNs this is below average, for example with Surfshark you can connect from up to 999 devices at the same time.

Speedify VPN‘s compatibility with different device types is poor. The app is only directly available for Windows, macOS, and Linux computers and for Android and iOS mobile devices.

Speedify VPN cannot be used on Android TV, Apple TV, Fire TV, or Kodi smart TV and multimedia systems, Playstation and Xbox game consoles, or Raspberry Pi alternative systems.

Support is also lacking for running Speedify VPN on a router that could simply secure all devices connected to the same network. In addition, the use of a VPN on a router effectively replaces the low number of simultaneously connected devices.

Speedify VPN does not offer browser extensions.

NordVPN is the top choice for cross-device compatibility, supporting all common and less common operating systems and allowing easy use via a web browser add-on.

  4. Speedify VPN App: User-Friendliness, Whitelist, Server Selection…

    • App Languages: 🇺🇸 English +9 more🇦🇪 Arabic 🇨🇳 Chinese 🇫🇷 French 🇩🇪 German 🇵🇹 Portuguese 🇷🇺 Russian 🇪🇸 Spanish 🇹🇷 Turkish 🇷🇴 Romanian
    • Whitelisting:
      Yes
Whitelisting is supported by 52 % of reviewed VPNs

The Speedify VPN desktop app is good-looking and can be operated by less experienced users. They can switch between a dark and light appearance in the settings, turn on the app sounds or optionally activate the display of notifications. The app environment is translated into 10 different languages.

A specific feature of the Speedify VPN app is the display of quite a large number of different statistics about the transferred data. Considering the non-existent limit of transferred data, this is somewhat unnecessary information.

Speedify VPN offers several interesting features, including Bypass, which is a bit reminiscent of whitelist. In the Bypass settings, you can choose which apps and websites will connect directly to the internet, while Speedify VPN will protect everyone else. However, there’s only a sort of preset list of popular apps and websites, which you can’t add your own.

The list of servers is sorted alphabetically in the app. You can also use the automatic connection to the fastest server at that moment or to a server optimized for torrenting. The Speedify VPN app settings also allow the connection to be established automatically when the device boots up.

  5. Speedify VPN Connection Speed: Upload, Download & Latency

    • Traffic limit: Unlimited

    Download speed

    Upload speed

    Server latency

Like all other paid VPNs, Speedify VPN does not limit users in the amount of data transferred.

Speedify VPN advertises itself as the fastest VPN on its website, which is what its name refers to. The speeds measured in our test proved to be sufficient for most users, yet Speedify VPN loses out to the best services on the market. When testing transfer speeds, we used the connect to nearest server feature.

On average, the measured download speed reached 113 Mb/s, which is easily enough for streaming 4K video, for example. For this, a threshold of at least 50 Mbps is stated as necessary.

Compared to the competition, Speedify VPN loses a little in upload speed, the measured 56 Mb/s can be considered a below-average value. For example, FastestVPN measured an average upload of 254 Mb/s. However, for sharing larger files, 56 Mb/s is a sufficient speed.

Speedify VPN‘s response time averaged 33 ms, which is easily enough for gaming and video calls. The response time of the best VPNs on the market is even better, for example AdGuard VPN had an average response time of 7 ms. For server response as opposed to transfer speeds, the lowest value is better.

  6. Speedify VPN Server Locations

    • Number of servers:
      200
The average number of servers for the reviewed VPNs is 1699.
    • Number of countries:
      36
The average number of countries available for the reviewed VPNs is 41.
    Europe 🇧🇪 Belgium 🇧🇬 Bulgaria 🇩🇰 Denmark 🇫🇮 Finland 🇫🇷 France 🇮🇪 Ireland 🇮🇹 Italy 🇭🇺 Hungary 🇩🇪 Germany 🇳🇱 Netherlands 🇳🇴 Norway 🇵🇱 Poland 🇵🇹 Portugal 🇦🇹 Austria 🇷🇴 Romania 🇸🇮 Slovenia 🇬🇧 United Kingdom 🇷🇸 Serbia 🇪🇸 Spain 🇸🇪 Sweden 🇨🇭 Switzerland 🇹🇷 Turkey
North America 🇨🇦 Canada 🇲🇽 Mexico 🇺🇸 USA
    South America 🇧🇷 Brazil
Asia 🇮🇩 Indonesia 🇮🇱 Israel 🇯🇵 Japan 🇰🇷 South Korea 🇷🇺 Russia 🇸🇬 Singapore 🇦🇪 United Arab Emirates
    Africa 🇿🇦 South Africa
Oceania 🇦🇺 Australia 🇳🇿 New Zealand

The Speedify VPN network consists of 200 servers in 36 countries, which can be considered a below-average offering. ExpressVPN, for example, offers subscribers 3,000 servers in 94 countries.

Traditionally, most Speedify VPN servers are located in Europe, but every continent is represented. Of the less common countries, Speedify VPN offers VPN servers in Finland, Slovenia, Serbia, Brazil, and South Korea. There are also servers in the US, Canada, the UK, Ireland, South Africa, Australia and New Zealand. Speedify VPN also has servers located in countries with prevalent internet censorship, specifically Russia, Indonesia and the United Arab Emirates.

The available locations are listed alphabetically. You can connect manually to any of them, or let the app choose the fastest server at the time.

Speedify VPN does not offer any servers specifically optimized for torrenting or streaming, for example. At least the app supports automatic selection of the optimal server for torrenting.

  7. Speedify VPN Security Features: DNS Leak Protection, Kill Switch…

    • DNS leak protection :
      Yes
DNS leak protection is offered by 92% of the reviewed VPNs.
    • Kill Switch:
      Yes
Kill Switch is supported by 87% of the reviewed VPNs.
    • Multi-Hop:
      No
Multi-Hop connection is offered by 20 % of the VPNs reviewed.
    • Tor:
      No
Tor support is offered by 19 % of the reviewed VPNs.

Speedify VPN meets the basic requirements of a secure VPN. DNS leak protection is implemented in the app, which reliably hid our real IP address during testing. There were no DNS leaks. More experienced users can use the advanced DNS protection settings in the app’s settings.

There is a kill switch feature available in the app that disconnects the device from the internet once the connection to the VPN server is lost. This ensures that the user’s real IP address and location remain secret.

Speedify VPN runs a proprietary security protocol built on DTLS 1.2. In addition, the transmitted data is protected by AES256-GCM encryption and, on older devices, Chacha. The security variant used is considered sufficient, there is no need to worry about the loss of transmitted data. A criticism of Speedify VPN is the lack of alternative protocols. Surfshark, NordVPN and other services support, for example, modern WireGuard and OpenVPN.

Among the advanced security features Speedify VPN lacks is multi-hop, which routes connections through multiple VPN servers simultaneously. This makes it more difficult to trace the origin of the connection as multiple layers protect the user.

Also unavailable are Tor network connections and Speedify VPN‘s user account protection via two-factor authentication. A somewhat odd feature, the purpose of which we haven’t fully uncovered, is the ability to turn off encryption of traffic.

  8. Speedify VPN & Streaming: Netflix, YouTube, Amazon Prime…

    • Amazon Prime:
      No
Amazon Prime streaming is supported by 52 % of reviewed VPNs
    • Disney+:
      No
Disney+ streaming is supported by 53 % of reviewed VPNs
    • HBO:
      No
HBO streaming is supported by 57 % of reviewed VPNs
    • Hulu:
      No
Hulu streaming is supported by 50 % of reviewed VPNs
    • Netflix:
      Yes
Netflix streaming is supported by 67 % of reviewed VPNs
    • YouTube:
      Yes
YouTube streaming is supported by 97 % of reviewed VPNs

Speedify VPN is not suitable for unblocking foreign streaming platform libraries. There are no dedicated servers dedicated to streaming, so in our test we were only able to access videos from YouTube and Netflix.

HBO, Amazon Prime Video, Disney+, and Hulu streaming platforms were not able to handle Speedify VPN. With Amazon Prime, we got a message saying that we were connected to a VPN, and for this reason, video playback was not possible. The remaining platforms didn’t allow video loading either.

For the purpose of unblocking streams, we recommend prioritizing NordVPN, Surfshark, or CyberGhost VPN. All three services fully support all popular streaming platforms, guaranteeing high connection speeds and adding an excellent level of security on top.

  9. Features of Speedify VPN: AdBlock, Static IP…

    • Blocks Ads:
      Yes
Ad blocking is offered by 44 % of the VPNs reviewed.
    • Blocks Malware:
      No
Malware blocking is offered by 33 % of the VPNs reviewed.
    • Blocks Trackers:
      No
Trackers blocking is offered by 38 % of the VPNs reviewed.

Ad blocking can be enabled in the app settings via the AdGuard platform. Tracker and malware blocking is not supported by Speedify VPN.

Speedify VPN offers some additional features that are not common in VPN apps. For example, it involves sharing the internet connection between Speedify VPN users who are connected to the same wi-fi network.

Another interesting feature is the “Bonding Mode”, which can combine multiple internet connections (for example, wi-fi and mobile data) to provide higher transfer speeds. “Seamless Failover”, on the other hand, monitors the connection status and if the user leaves the wi-fi network, it automatically switches them to another available internet source without interrupting calls or downloads.

The Speedify VPN app also supports camouflage mode, which makes the VPN appear to be a regular connection on the outside. This makes it harder to detect by streaming platforms or ISPs. The feature finds use, for example, in places where VPN use can be a source of problems.

Dedicated servers are only available at an additional cost and only with Speedify VPN team accounts.

  10. Speedify VPN‘s CPU usage and App Performance

VPN applications are generally developed so that their use does not burden the computer and restrict the user in normal use. Speedify VPN is among the better-than-average in this field. With the VPN connection activated, the app only used 30 MB of RAM, which is almost imperceptible for today’s devices.

Of the processor and battery on the test MacBook, Speedify VPN used only 0.2% of its capacity. In case of stability issues, the app can be turned off completely. Faster device startup can be achieved by disabling the option to automatically connect to the VPN after startup in the settings.

  11. Speedify VPN Torrenting Servers

    • Torrenting servers:
      Yes
Torrenting support is offered by 89 % of the reviewed VPNs.

Speedify VPN is not the best solution for torrenting. Not only does it not operate any specially optimized servers for this type of use, but it prohibits torrenting on most servers altogether.

When selecting a connection location, a “Torrent Friendly” option is available to connect the user to the best location for P2P file sharing.

Our measured download speed of 113 Mb/s and upload speed of 56 Mb/s is sufficient for torrenting purposes alone.

The best VPN for torrenting offers dedicated servers, better security and features to ensure maximum anonymity for P2P file sharing. Some of these services include Proton VPN Plus, CyberGhost VPN, and Ivacy VPN.

  12. What Is the Country of Origin Of Speedify VPN?

    • VPN Provider: Connectify, Inc.
    • Country of origin: 🇺🇸 USA

Speedify VPN is operated by Connectify Inc. based in Philadelphia, USA. Founded on October 1, 2009, Connectify Inc. runs a free alternative, Speedify VPN Free, along with its paid VPN.

The company’s US headquarters may pose a risk to some users, as the country is a member of the 5 Eyes alliance. The security agencies of these countries monitor users’ internet behaviour and may require VPN operators to release specific information if they are suspicious. In addition, they share the data they obtain with each other.

More sensitive users often prefer VPNs whose operator is based in countries with unprecedented levels of data protection. Such countries include Switzerland (where Proton VPN Plus is based) or Panama (where NordVPN is from).

  13. Speedify VPN and Privacy: Logging Policy, Security Issues…

    • No-Logs Policy:
      Partially
The No-Logs Policy is followed by 78% of reviewed VPNs.

Speedify VPN‘s privacy policy is brief and makes it clear what data the company collects about users.

The information collected is more than that of the best VPNs. Speedify VPN stores the email address needed to maintain a user account, but it also stores the IP address, time connected to the VPN, device identifier, and the amount of data transferred. This amount of information can already lead to the identification of a specific user, although the operator of Speedify VPN declares that it only uses the data to optimize the services offered.

The servers used by Speedify VPN to store this data are located in the US and can thus be seized by local authorities. Subscription payments are processed by third parties, so the Speedify VPN operator does not have access to the data.

Speedify VPN users’ personal data is not sold to third parties or passed on to the police or courts unless the company is directly asked to do so.

An independent audit focusing on the security of the app and on data protection compliance would help to increase confidence in Speedify VPN. This has not yet been undertaken by the company. Connectify Inc. does not issue either a Transparency Report or a Warrant Canary through which it would report on data release requests received. NordVPN, for example, has undergone several application and data security audits, always passing without issue.

So far, there are no known leaks of Speedify VPN users’ personal data.

  14. Speedify VPN Support: Chat, e-mail…

Customer support is available by emailing support@speedify.com or by clicking on the chat icon on the right side of the Speedify VPN website. Support hours are limited, it is not available 24/7.

Questions can also be asked on Speedify VPN‘s social media channels. To speed up assistance in case of technical issues, you can generate logs in the app to attach to your email.

On the Speedify VPN website, you’ll find a “Help” tab where you’ll find an extensive knowledge base with answers to general questions and solutions to platform-specific issues.

Speedify VPN does not operate a discussion forum where you can connect with other users of the service. The company at least maintains a blog where it publishes articles and tips about more than just VPNs.

  15. Speedify VPN FAQ

    Is Speedify VPN free?
Speedify VPN is a paid service, the price of the most affordable subscription option is $7.50 per month. It is subject to payment for the entire period in advance, and the order is covered by a 30 days of money-back guarantee. The trial version of Speedify VPN is available for free for 7 days.

Casual users can use the free variant of Speedify VPN Free, which has a few limitations compared to the paid variant. However, it can be used for free for unlimited time.

    Is Speedify VPN secure?
Speedify VPN uses a proprietary protocol that is based on the DTLS 1.2 standard and contributes to the security of the service. We didn’t detect any data leaks during our testing. The mobile app offers a kill switch to prevent insecure connections.

Speedify VPN‘s weakness is the large amount of data collected, which includes IP address, connection time, or device information. The VPN provider is based in the US, which are members of the 5 Eyes alliance and can track users’ internet movements.

Is Speedify VPN suitable for streaming?
Speedify VPN was only able to unblock video from YouTube and Netflix platforms in our test, so we can’t recommend it for streaming. It couldn’t handle unblocking movies from Amazon Prime Video, Disney Plus, HBO, or Hulu.

The average measured download speed of 113 Mb/s is sufficient for watching 4k videos. The best VPNs for streaming can handle all streaming platforms, guaranteeing high connection speeds and adding important security features on top.

We can recommend NordVPN, Surfshark or CyberGhost VPN.
