VPNSecure Me 2024 Review: 4 Cons and 3 Pros

VPNSecure Me 2024 Review: 4 Cons and 3 Pros

6.6
★★★
  1. VPNSecure.me: Why Did It Receive a Rating of 6.6/10?

    • Servers in only 32 countries
    • Failed to unblock streaming services
    • App significantly slows down upload speeds
    • The operator is based in Australia, a member of the 5 Eyes
    • Stealth feature disguises VPN as a regular connection
    • Routers are on sale on which VPNs can be used
    • It does not store logs

VPNSecure.me is operated by VPNSecure Pty Ltd, based in Gumdale, Australia. In our test, it received a 6.6/10 rating, placing it among the average services.

Benefits of VPNSecure.me include zero log storage and an available Stealth mode that disguises the VPN as a regular internet connection. This allows the service to be used in situations where you don’t want to expose your use of a private network.

The VPNSecure.me app is relatively simple to use, although we find its design less successful. In the settings, you can choose the encryption level and activate additional features, of which there are not many. The OpenVPN protocol and strong 256-bit encryption are supported.

The weak point of VPNSecure.me is its inability to unblock videos from streaming platforms; in our test, it was only able to play videos from YouTube. The 23 Mb/s upload speed was also very below average; the slowdown may be due to the application itself.

The price of a VPNSecure.me subscription is particularly interesting when purchasing a three-year subscription, where the monthly price is $2.99. A monthly subscription for $9.95 is quite expensive compared to the competition.

For a comparable price, one can get, for example, NordVPN (rating 9.4/10, priced at $4.04 per month) or Surfshark (9.2/10 for $2.12 per month), which can unblock all streaming platforms, offer faster speeds, and guarantee a perfect level of security.

  2. VPNSecure.me Subscription: Discount Code, Free Trial, Money Back Guarantee…

    • Your Price: $9.9570% off  $2.99 /mo (5 devices)
    • Money Back Guarantee: Yes (30 days)
    • Free Trial: Yes (30 days)
    • Cryptocurrency payments:
      Yes
      Bitcoin :Yes
      Dash :No
      Ethereum :No
      Ripple :No

The structure of VPNSecure.me‘s tariffs is rather confusing. There are one-month, one-year, and three-year subscriptions available on the site. Once you navigate to the payment page, a six-month option appears in addition.

The price of the most affordable three-year subscription option, when converted to one month, is $2.99, but the full amount is paid upfront. In contrast, the least favorable subscription option is at $9.95 per month.

VPNSecure.me supports payment via debit and credit card, PayPal, or cryptocurrency such as Bitcoin. When ordering from the mobile app, you can also pay via Google Pay and Apple Pay.

All orders are covered by a money-back guarantee for 30 days. A trial version of VPNSecure.me is available for 30 days for a one-time fee of $1.00.

For an additional fee, you can get a dedicated IP address, HTTP Proxy, and Smart DNS for VPNSecure.me.

VPNSecure.me can be used on 5 devices simultaneously; in the context of other services, this is an average value. For example, Surfshark can be used on 999 devices simultaneously with a single subscription. Instructions on how to use the applications are available on the VPNSecure.me‘s website.

The desktop app for VPNSecure.me is available for Windows, macOS, and Linux, and the mobile app can be installed on Android and iOS devices. It does not directly support televisions, media centers, game consoles, or alternative devices like Raspberry Pi for VPNSecure.me. There is an APK available for Fire TV that can be downloaded and installed.

The advantage is that it can be installed on a router, making it easy to protect all devices connected to the same network, including those not directly supported. The router is treated as a single device in terms of the quota allowed. A list of supported routers and installation instructions is available on the web at VPNSecure.me. In addition, the VPN provider sells its own routers with guaranteed compatibility.

The browser extension is available for Chrome, Brave, Opera, and Vivaldi. However, the Chrome add-on only hides the user’s IP address; it cannot encrypt the data being transmitted.

  4. VPNSecure.me App: User-friendliness, whitelist, server selection…

    • App Languages: 🇺🇸 English +8 more🇩🇪 German 🇪🇸 Spanish 🇫🇷 French 🇮🇹 Italian 🇳🇱 Dutch 🇸🇪 Swedish 🇩🇰 Danish 🇷🇴 Romanian
    • Whitelisting:
      Yes
Whitelisting is supported by 52 % of reviewed VPNs

The app design of VPNSecure.me is not very successful from our point of view; the graphical design is outdated. The controls themselves are simple and easy to understand, as there are not too many advanced settings available. You can switch between light and dark themes according to your preferences.

In the desktop application settings, one can turn on the kill switch, search for Stealth servers, or change the encryption level. The advanced settings of VPNSecure.me allow for redirection of selected sites or individual OpenVPN configuration. The mobile app is more limited in terms of possible settings, with some features not available at all.

An interesting detail to make it easier to navigate the app is the descriptions of how each function works, which appear when you hover over it. The application environment of VPNSecure.me is available in 9 languages.

The whitelist is available under the name Routing, and you can select websites through it that the device will access directly even with VPN protection enabled. Automatic connection to the fastest server of VPNSecure.me is not supported. At least automatic connection to the VPN is available in the mobile app when the app is launched.

OpenVPN configuration and settings for Smarter DNS are available on the VPNSecure.me website, which allows access to content in a country other than the country where the user is connected to the VPN server.

During our testing, the desktop application crashed twice, after which we were unable to connect to any server. The only solution was to completely delete the application and reinstall it.

  5. VPNSecure.me Connection Speed: Upload, Download & Latency

    • Traffic limit: Unlimited

    Download speed

    Upload speed

    Server latency

VPNSecure.me does not limit the user in any way in the amount of data transferred; this is standard for paid VPNs.

When testing VPNSecure.me, we achieved an average download value of 105 Mb/s, which is sufficient for downloading large files and playing 4K video. The app doesn’t automatically connect to the fastest server at the time, so we chose the geographically closest ones.

The average upload speed was significantly lower; we measured only 23 Mb/s. A significant slowdown was caused by the application itself, VPNSecure.me; with the VPN disabled, the speed was higher. Thus, VPNSecure.me is not very suitable for uploading data to the Internet. For example, FastestVPN achieved 254 Mb/s in the average upload measurement.

The response speed of 39 ms is sufficient for online gaming or video chatting, although the top VPNs perform significantly better. For example, we measured AdGuard VPN with an average response time of 7 ms, and NordVPN achieved 11 ms response times. For response, as opposed to transfer rates, lower is better.

  6. VPNSecure.me Server Locations

    • Number of servers:
      76
The average number of servers for the reviewed VPNs is 1699.
    • Number of countries:

    Africa 🇿🇦 South Africa
Oceania 🇦🇺 Australia 🇳🇿 New Zealand

    VPNSecure.me operates 76 servers in 32 countries.

Every continent has at least one server represented, with the most in Europe. VPNSecure.me has servers in the US, Canada, UK, Ireland, Australia, and New Zealand, among others. From less common countries, you can connect in Hong Kong, Indonesia, or South Africa. In countries with state censorship, servers are available in Russia and the United Arab Emirates.

The number of available sites is slightly below average; for example, Surfshark gives users a choice of 97 countries, while Private Internet Access has 78.

Users cannot choose a specific server; the VPNSecure.me application will automatically connect to the available IP address. On the desktop, at least the last used locations can be displayed.

Some VPNSecure.me servers offer an additional feature to block advertising on websites. Specially optimized servers for torrenting or streaming are not available. All servers are divided into UDP and TCP.

All servers are directly operated by VPNSecure.me, eliminating the risk of data loss via a third party.

  7. VPNSecure.me Security Features: DNS Leak Protection, Kill Switch…

    • DNS leak protection :
      Yes
DNS leak protection is offered by 92% of the reviewed VPNs.
    • Kill Switch:
      Yes
Kill Switch is supported by 87% of the reviewed VPNs.
    • Multi-Hop:
      No
Multi-Hop connection is offered by 20 % of the VPNs reviewed.
    • Tor:
      No
Tor support is offered by 19 % of the reviewed VPNs.

VPNSecure.me offers dynamic DNS that can be set up on the VPNSecure.me website. The application also allows you to disable the IPv6 address. In security testing, VPNSecure.me did not leak the IP address, WebRTC, or DNS.

The application has an integrated kill switch feature that disconnects the device from the Internet if the connection to the VPN server is lost. This prevents the disclosure of the user’s IP address and location, or compromise of transmitted data.

In the VPNSecure.me mobile app, it is possible to activate an automatic connection to the VPN when the app is started. A long-term VPN connection can also be enabled, which will protect the device even after the app is turned off.

VPNSecure.me uses the popular and proven OpenVPN UDP and OpenVPN TCP protocols for communication. No other protocols are available.

Transmitted data is secured by default with 256-bit AES encryption, which is considered very secure. This can be changed in the application to 128-bit AES encryption, which is less performance-intensive. 56-bit DES-CBC encryption is also available, which is considered obsolete and unreliable.

VPNSecure.me does not offer multi-hop connectivity. A feature also known as Double VPN will provide connections through two different VPN servers at the same time, increasing both privacy and security.

Two-factor authentication when logging in to a VPNSecure.me user account is also missing, but at least you can activate email monitoring to watch for misuse of the registered address.

  8. VPNSecure.me & Streaming: Netflix, YouTube, Amazon Prime…

    • Amazon Prime:
      No
Amazon Prime streaming is supported by 52 % of reviewed VPNs
    • Disney+:
      No
Disney+ streaming is supported by 53 % of reviewed VPNs
    • HBO:
      No
HBO streaming is supported by 57 % of reviewed VPNs
    • Hulu:
      No
Hulu streaming is supported by 49 % of reviewed VPNs
    • Netflix:
      No
Netflix streaming is supported by 67 % of reviewed VPNs
    • YouTube:
      Yes
YouTube streaming is supported by 97 % of reviewed VPNs

In a test of unblocking streaming platforms, VPNSecure.me scored very poorly, with only videos from YouTube being watchable. We were unable to play content from Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Disney Plus, HBO Max, or Hulu, instead only displaying an error message.

So it was no surprise to find that VPNSecure.me doesn’t run any servers dedicated specifically to streaming. Meanwhile, the average download speed of 105 Mb/s is itself sufficient for 4K video playback. For this, a speed of 50 Mbps is usually quoted as necessary.

For unblocking foreign content from streaming platforms, we recommend giving preference to NordVPN, Surfshark, or CyberGhost VPN. They have successfully unblocked all streaming servers, have high speed, and on top of that guarantee a high level of security.

  9. Features of VPNSecure.me: AdBlock, Static IP…

    • Blocks Ads:
      Yes
Ad blocking is offered by 44 % of the VPNs reviewed.
    • Blocks Malware:
      No
Malware blocking is offered by 33 % of the VPNs reviewed.
    • Blocks Trackers:
      No
Trackers blocking is offered by 38 % of the VPNs reviewed.

VPNSecure.me supports ad-blocking only on selected servers that are labeled “Ad Blocker” in the list. The feature has had only partial success, with the number of ads on the site mostly reduced but not completely gone. Neither malware blocking nor tracker blocking is possible with the application.

In the VPNSecure.me app settings, the Stealth feature can be enabled, which is available on specific servers. Stealth disguises the VPN from the ISP as a regular connection. Thus, the service can be used to provide protection in China and other countries where VPN users may face penalties.

There is a kill switch feature on the desktop app and an automatic VPN connection feature on the phone. No other features are offered by VPNSecure.me.

For an additional fee, VPNSecure.me offers a dedicated IP address that will be only for you and not shared with other users.

  10. VPNSecure.me‘s CPU usage and App Performance

In terms of load generated, VPNSecure.me is among the average. The macOS app took 40 MB of RAM, which is a paltry figure in the context of the overall capacity of today’s computers. On the hard drive, the app takes between 9 and 30 MB depending on the operating system.

On the test MacBook Air, VPNSecure.me used 3% of the CPU power and 0.5% of the battery. The app uses some of the computer’s power even after the VPN is disconnected when it is still running in the background.

If you don’t plan to use the app, you can turn it off completely to maximize your computer’s performance. Restarting is fast.

  11. VPNSecure.me Torrenting Servers

    • Torrenting servers:
      Yes
Torrenting support is offered by 89 % of the reviewed VPNs.

Torrenting is possible on all VPNSecure.me servers.

VPNSecure.me does not operate any servers specifically optimized for P2P file sharing. Our measured download speed (105 Mb/s) and upload speed (23 Mb/s) are more suitable for torrent downloads, so we recommend giving preference to competing VPNs with better support. For example, Ivacy VPN or CyberGhost VPN offers faster connection speeds and a very good level of security.

During our tests, we tried BitTorrent and uTorrent clients, and others can be used as well. VPNSecure.me warns that it will hand over user data to the police if the service is used for illegal activities. This is particularly the case when sharing copyrighted content.

  12. What is the country of origin of VPNSecure.me?

    • VPN Provider: VPNSecure Pty Ltd
    • Country of origin: 🇦🇺 Australia

The operator of VPNSecure.me is VPNSecure Pty Ltd, based in Gumdale, Australia. The company was incorporated on June 17, 2011. Its main business is the development of VPNs.

Australia is a member of the 5 Eyes Countries grouping, which may cause distrust in some users. The member countries of this group monitor internet traffic and, for example, in the event of a violation, they can share the data obtained about users among themselves.

In addition, Australia itself has a law prohibiting the encryption of transmitted data.

VPNSecure.me does not store any logs from the use of the service; the information needed to maintain a user account in the long term is collected, in the range of email address and payment method. In the event of a court challenge, the data must be released.

  13. VPNSecure.me and Privacy: Logging Policy, Security Issues…

    • No-Logs Policy:
      Yes
The No-Logs Policy is followed by 78% of reviewed VPNs.

VPNSecure.me claims to have a policy of zero log storage of VPN traffic.

Thus, it does not collect IP addresses, connection times, traffic volume, or DNS logs. In the terms of service, we found mention that if the company suspects that VPN services are being used for illegal activities, it may hand over the user’s personal data to the authorities. Only the personal data needed to maintain the account is stored; this includes the name, email address, and password in encrypted form.

Because Australia has enforced a law against encrypted data transfers, it can demand user information from private companies. VPNSecure.me fights this regulation by exclusively using shared static IP addresses. Thus, one particular IP address is used by several people at the same time, so the data transmitted cannot be uniquely associated with a particular person. In addition, the company is considering moving its headquarters to Hong Kong, which has a more privacy-friendly policy. The exact date of the change has not yet been set.

The operator VPNSecure.me has not undergone any independent audit to confirm claims about the anonymity and security of the service. Leading services such as Surfshark undergo similar audits on a regular basis.

In addition, VPNSecure.me does not issue any Transparency Report with information about data release and handling challenges. There have been no confirmed leaks for VPNSecure.me.

  14. VPNSecure.me Support: Chat, e-mail…

Customer support can be contacted via the contact form on the VPNSecure.me website and mobile app. We waited around four days to a week for responses to our test queries, depending on their complexity.

Additionally, VPNSecure.me has a knowledge base on the site that is particularly helpful when installing the app on individual operating systems. Answers to general questions were not found there, but additional information can be found on the blog.

Live nonstop chat is not operated by VPNSecure.me, although you will find on the site that customer support is available 24/7. There is also no official forum where one can get hints and tips from more experienced users.

  15. VPNSecure.me FAQ

Additionally, you can purchase a router from VPNSecure.me to secure all devices connected to the same network.

To protect your data transfer, VPNSecure.me uses the OpenVPN protocol and up to 256-bit encryption, which is considered very secure. There is a kill switch feature available in the app that disconnects the device from the internet if the connection to the VPN server fails unexpectedly.

In testing, VPNSecure.me did not leak any data about our real IP address, DNS, or WebRTC.
