   The app design of VPNSecure.me is not very successful from our point of view; the graphical design is outdated. The controls themselves are simple and easy to understand, as there are not too many advanced settings available. You can switch between light and dark themes according to your preferences.

   In the desktop application settings, one can turn on the kill switch, search for Stealth servers, or change the encryption level. The advanced settings of VPNSecure.me allow for redirection of selected sites or individual OpenVPN configuration. The mobile app is more limited in terms of possible settings, with some features not available at all.

   An interesting detail to make it easier to navigate the app is the descriptions of how each function works, which appear when you hover over it. The application environment of VPNSecure.me is available in 9 languages.

   The whitelist is available under the name Routing, and you can select websites through it that the device will access directly even with VPN protection enabled. Automatic connection to the fastest server of VPNSecure.me is not supported. At least automatic connection to the VPN is available in the mobile app when the app is launched.

   OpenVPN configuration and settings for Smarter DNS are available on the VPNSecure.me website, which allows access to content in a country other than the country where the user is connected to the VPN server.

   During our testing, the desktop application crashed twice, after which we were unable to connect to any server. The only solution was to completely delete the application and reinstall it.

   The average upload speed was significantly lower; we measured only 23 Mb/s. A significant slowdown was caused by the application itself, VPNSecure.me; with the VPN disabled, the speed was higher. Thus, VPNSecure.me is not very suitable for uploading data to the Internet. For example, FastestVPN achieved 254 Mb/s in the average upload measurement.

   The response speed of 39 ms is sufficient for online gaming or video chatting, although the top VPNs perform significantly better. For example, we measured AdGuard VPN with an average response time of 7 ms, and NordVPN achieved 11 ms response times. For response, as opposed to transfer rates, lower is better.

   In a test of unblocking streaming platforms, VPNSecure.me scored very poorly, with only videos from YouTube being watchable. We were unable to play content from Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Disney Plus, HBO Max, or Hulu, instead only displaying an error message.

   So it was no surprise to find that VPNSecure.me doesn’t run any servers dedicated specifically to streaming. Meanwhile, the average download speed of 105 Mb/s is itself sufficient for 4K video playback. For this, a speed of 50 Mbps is usually quoted as necessary.

   For unblocking foreign content from streaming platforms, we recommend giving preference to NordVPN, Surfshark, or CyberGhost VPN. They have successfully unblocked all streaming servers, have high speed, and on top of that guarantee a high level of security.

    In terms of load generated, VPNSecure.me is among the average. The macOS app took 40 MB of RAM, which is a paltry figure in the context of the overall capacity of today’s computers. On the hard drive, the app takes between 9 and 30 MB depending on the operating system.

    On the test MacBook Air, VPNSecure.me used 3% of the CPU power and 0.5% of the battery. The app uses some of the computer’s power even after the VPN is disconnected when it is still running in the background.

    If you don’t plan to use the app, you can turn it off completely to maximize your computer’s performance. Restarting is fast.
