Seed4Me VPN: Why Did It Get A 5.4/10 In the Big Test?
- Low number of available features
- Limited choice of protocols
- Lack of independent third party authentication
- Unblocked streaming platforms except YouTube
- Headquartered in the US
- Ability to pay with cryptocurrencies
- Unlimited devices can be connected simultaneously
The Seed4Me VPN is being developed by S4M Tech, Inc. an American company that, in addition to VPNs, is also behind an Internet display advertising platform. The Seed4Me VPN scored a 5.4/10 in our review, ranking 85 10th among 90 reviewed VPNs.
The Seed4Me VPN app offers very few features compared to the competition, which cost it points in the ratings. The all-important kill switch and DNS leak protection are not missing. Only a single protocol, OpenVPN, is supported, which is good in itself, but other private networks give users more options to choose from.
In a test of unblocking streaming platforms, Seed4Me VPN only handled the YouTube server. Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Disney Plus and HBO Max were all above its pay grade.
The advantage is the ability to use Seed4Me VPN on 999 devices simultaneously and to use cryptocurrencies to pay for subscriptions, increasing the level of anonymity.
Overall, Seed4Me VPN with a subscription price of $2.99 per month may suit less demanding users. Better rated services can be subscribed for a comparable or lower amount, such as NordVPN (9.4/10 for $4.04 per month) or Surfshark (9.2/10 for $2.12 per month).

VPN can also be used on the Linux distribution Ubuntu, the connection must first be set up manually according to the instructions on the website.
Support is missing for the multimedia platforms Apple TV, Kodi and Roku, for the game consoles Playstation and Xbox as well as for the alternative systems Chromecast and Raspberry Pi. The Seed4Me VPN cannot be used even on a router that could otherwise protect all devices connected to a single network.
The Seed4Me VPN extension is not available for browsers.

Access to the Seed4Me VPN application is possible via email and password. The user interface on a mobile device and on a computer is identical, differing only in the availability of some features. The environment is only available in the light variant, dark mode is not available.
The appearance of the app looks somewhat outdated. It can’t be enlarged to full screen, and if you accidentally click outside the app window, it immediately minimizes automatically and moves to hidden icons. There is no way to disable this strange behavior.
The application environment Seed4Me VPN is available in 9 different languages, including English.
When you start the application, you will first see a screen with information about the subscription, the current connection status to the server, and the connection time. For a quick connection, just click the power button, the app will select the best server automatically. The IP address of the respective VPN server is then displayed in the connection status.
During our testing, the app worked without any difficulties. It didn’t get stuck and we had no difficulties operating it. The desktop version can be set to start and connect to the server automatically when the computer is turned on.
In the mobile app, Seed4Me VPN can define a wi-fi network for which the VPN will not be used. This feature is useful, for example, when connecting to a secure home network.
In the desktop application, there is a kill switch function that disconnects the device from the Internet if the connection to the VPN server is lost. With this procedure, the user’s actual IP address and location will not be displayed. The kill switch is not available on mobile devices.
Unavailable features include whitelisting, where apps or websites can be selected to connect directly to the internet even when VPN protection is activated.
An interesting feature Seed4Me VPN is Shadow Mode, which helps bypass censorship on restricted networks.
Seed4Me VPN Connection Speed: Upload, Download & Latency
- Traffic limit: Unlimited
Download speed
Upload speed
Server latency
Seed4Me VPN does not limit the user in the amount of data transferred, which is standard among paid services. Connecting to the server was fast and stable. We did not encounter any connection failures during the testing.
In repeated measurements, we achieved an average download value 43 Mb/s that might not be sufficient, for example, for playing 4k resolution video. For this, a minimum speed of at least 50 Mbps is stated as necessary.
The upload speed was even worse for Seed4Me VPN, when we measured average 9 Mb/s. Such speeds can limit users when sending large files or even when torrenting. For example FastestVPN we measured average uploads 254 Mb/s.
The average response rate for Seed4Me VPN was 111 ms. The response time is important, for example, when making video calls or playing games, where too high a value can result in annoying stuttering. A value of up to 100 ms is recommended for smooth video playback and gaming. For response speed, lower is always better. [For comparison, we measured the response time of Surfshark, while AdGuard VPN achieved an average of 7 ms.
In terms of speed, Seed4Me VPN is sufficient for normal Internet surfing. For ultra-high resolution video playback or for heavy users, we cannot recommend it with a calm heart. For more demanding users, we recommend that they first read the reviews of NordVPN and Surfshark.

While the number of servers is below average in the context of other VPNs, the breadth of available locations is good.
Most servers are allocated in Europe, but Asia also has excellent coverage. At least one site is available on every continent. Of the less frequented countries, Seed4Me VPN has servers in Luxembourg, Moldova, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia or Tunisia. The Seed4Me VPN also has servers in the US, Canada, the UK and Australia.
Among countries with government censorship, Seed4Me VPN has servers in Belarus, Russia, Turkey, China and Thailand.
The Seed4Me VPN application does not support automatic connection to the fastest available server. You must always manually select a location from the list of countries. Unfortunately, there is no option to save locations as favorites, so you always have to search for a country in the list again and again.
All servers are physically located in the country, none of them are virtual. At the same time, none of the servers are optimized for a particular type of traffic, such as torrenting or streamed video. Each server fully supports all features available in the app.
Seed4Me VPN Security Features: DNS Leak Protection, Kill Switch…
- DNS leak protection : YesDNS leak protection is offered by 92% of the reviewed VPNs.
- Kill Switch: YesKill Switch is supported by 87% of the reviewed VPNs.
- Multi-Hop: NoMulti-Hop connection is offered by 20 % of the VPNs reviewed.
- Tor: NoTor support is offered by 19 % of the reviewed VPNs.
The Seed4Me VPN application has implemented DNS leak protection, which proved to work during testing when no leaks occurred.
There is also an important kill switch security feature that disconnects the device from the Internet if the connection to the VPN server fails. This keeps the user’s real IP address and location secret and prevents compromising the transmitted data.
While most other VPNs give users several protocols to choose from, Seed4Me VPN offers only one. This is a custom modified protocol based on the relatively secure and modern OpenVPN. The details of the modifications to the Seed4Me VPN protocol have not been published anywhere.
The transmitted data is protected by 256-bit AES encryption, which is considered secure. It is used to secure systems by banks and some armies, among others.
With advanced security features it is worse. The Seed4Me VPN does not support multi-hop connections (Double VPN), where traffic is routed through two different VPN servers at the same time. This achieves a higher level of security and privacy, the tax for this tends to be a slightly lower transfer rate.
The Seed4Me VPN does not offer support for use on the Tor network either. The option to secure the user account with two-factor password verification is also missing.
Seed4Me VPN & Streaming: Netflix, YouTube, Amazon Prime…
- Amazon Prime: NoAmazon Prime streaming is supported by 52 % of reviewed VPNs

- HBO: NoHBO streaming is supported by 57 % of reviewed VPNs

- Netflix: NoNetflix streaming is supported by 67 % of reviewed VPNs
- YouTube: YesYouTube streaming is supported by 97 % of reviewed VPNs
We can’t recommend Seed4Me VPN for the purpose of unblocking streaming video.
In our test, we were only able to play geo-block protected video from YouTube. Streams from Netflix, Amazon Prime, Disney Plus, HBO Max, and Hulu couldn’t handle Seed4Me VPN. The service does not operate any dedicated servers for the purpose of unblocking streaming video.
Moreover, the average download speed achieved in the test (43 Mb/s) may be a harbinger of problems with ultra-high resolution 4k video playback. For this, a value of at least 50 Mbps is considered necessary.
To unblock streaming video, we recommend prioritizing CyberGhost VPN, Surfshark or NordVPN. All three services guarantee high speed, were able to unblock the tested platforms and on top of that provide an excellent level of security.
Features of Seed4Me VPN: AdBlock, Static IP…
- Blocks Ads: NoAd blocking is offered by 44 % of the VPNs reviewed.
- Blocks Malware: NoMalware blocking is offered by 33 % of the VPNs reviewed.
- Blocks Trackers: NoTrackers blocking is offered by 38 % of the VPNs reviewed.
The range of extra features is minimal with Seed4Me VPN. For example, support is lacking for the relatively commonly available ad blocking, malware and tracker blocking.
Also missing from Seed4Me VPN is the classic camouflage mode, which can disguise a VPN as a regular Internet connection. This makes it difficult for ISPs or streaming platform operators to detect an active VPN. The Seed4Me VPN only supports Shadow Mode, which can bypass censorship on wi-fi networks with limited access.
Static IP address is not available with Seed4Me VPN, even at an additional cost. The only available option is a dynamic IP address, which changes when you disconnect and connect to the VPN server.
No other premium or additional features are available with Seed4Me VPN.
Seed4Me VPN‘s CPU usage and App Performance
The Seed4Me VPN application has a minimal effect on computer load, which is true of most VPNs. The mobile app also has a relatively low load.
If you click outside the app window or on the crosshair, Seed4Me VPN minimizes to the system tray. While this behavior provides some performance savings, the application must then be re-enabled via the icon. At the same place, it can be turned off completely.
Seed4Me VPN Torrenting Servers
- Torrenting servers: YesTorrenting support is offered by 89 % of the reviewed VPNs.
Seed4Me VPN supports torrenting and P2P file sharing on all servers.
By asking customer support, we found that the most suitable servers for torrenting are in Switzerland, Sweden and Norway. However, the servers are not specifically optimized for torrenting and are not marked in the menu. Servers with a static IP address are also not offered by Seed4Me VPN.
Our measured download speed 43 Mb/s and upload speed 9 Mb/s may limit users when torrenting. So, all in all, there are better VPNs suitable for this purpose. For example, we can recommend CyberGhost VPN, Ivacy VPN or NordVPN.
What is the country of origin of Seed4Me VPN?
- VPN Provider: S4M Tech, Inc.
- Country of origin: 🇺🇸 USA
Seed4Me VPN is being developed by S4M Tech, Inc. an Internet security company that operates an Internet advertising platform in addition to a VPN. The first version of the VPN was launched in January 2013, starting with a pair of servers in the US and the Netherlands.
The US is a member of the 5 Eyes alliance, whose intelligence services monitor users’ internet activity. They can require VPN operators to hand over data on specific users if they suspect security threats or other illegal activity. In addition, they can share the information they obtain with each other.
Seed4Me VPN and Privacy: Logging Policy, Security Issues…
- No-Logs Policy: PartiallyThe No-Logs Policy is followed by 78% of reviewed VPNs.
The provider of Seed4Me VPN claims that no logs are generated when using the application that can be directly linked to a specific user. At the same time, it does not specify the type of data it collects about its users. The details of how the data is subsequently handled, whether it is deleted or possibly sold to other parties, are also unknown.
To date, there is no known information that user data is sold or handed over to the police or the courts.
So far, Seed4Me VPN has not been independently audited for application security or the handling of users’ personal data. Independent auditing is one of the steps VPN operators take to ensure greater credibility among users.
The use of RAM-only servers is also unclear. The advantage of this technology is that RAM memories do not, in principle, allow long-term storage of data as they are continuously overwritten by newer data. This ensures a higher level of privacy for the user. Nowhere does Seed4Me VPN state that it uses servers with RAM memory. It can therefore be assumed that conventional hard disk servers are used.
Seed4Me VPN Support: Chat, e-mail…
Customer support at Seed4Me VPN is available exclusively through the support@seed4.me email address. Our queries were answered within a few hours, and in the context of other services, support can be described as fast. Live chat does not offer support with Seed4Me VPN.
The Seed4Me VPN website still has a VPN-related FAQ and information section.
