   Goose VPN is run by Dutch company GOOSE B.V. In our test, it scored an overall score of 6.4/10, which puts it at #66 place in a ranking of 90 reviewed VPNs.

   The downside of Goose VPN is that it offers just 100 servers in 24 countries. Other VPNs have a significantly wider network, with Surfshark, for example, running servers in 97 different locations.

   In the streaming unblocking test, Goose VPN achieved mixed results. We were able to access video from US Netflix and from YouTube and Hulu platforms. We were unsuccessful with Amazon Prime Video, Disney Plus and HBO.

   The Goose VPN app lacks superior multi-hop connectivity features and support for Tor traffic. Ad blocking, malware, and tracker blocking are also unavailable. The service would benefit from an independent audit from a reputable company.

   The Goose VPN app is available for Windows, Mac and Linux computers. Among mobile devices, Android and iOS are supported.

   Goose VPN can also be used on Android TV smart TVs and NAS smart storage devices. The advantage is the support for router traffic, which makes it easy to secure all devices connected to the same network. Devices for which the app does not directly exist can thus be secured via VPN.

   Access to the Goose VPN app is contingent on creating a user account, for which an email and password are required. The other option is to register with a Microsoft account. The Goose VPN app environment is available in 4 different languages.

   The look and feel of the Goose VPN app is almost identical on a computer and on a mobile device. The interface is only available in light mode, the dark alternative is missing from the menu.

   A large button for connecting and disconnecting from the VPN dominates the Goose VPN home screen. Below the button, connection status information is displayed. The environment is minimalistic in design, through the various icons you can click through to different parts of the app, such as settings or the list of servers.

   To connect to the VPN, you must first select a country from the list and then click on the button. The connection is not instantaneous, there is a wait of a few seconds. Clicking the off and on button will quickly connect to the last selected location.

   The app notifies the user of all events via notifications, for example, when a VPN connection is successfully established or when the server is disconnected. During our test, the app worked without difficulty and without any stuttering.

   To achieve a faster connection speed, you can use the function to automatically establish a connection with the fastest server. Alternatively, the location can be selected from a list. You can use the save as favourite function, which will ensure faster access to the server in the future.

   In the Goose VPN settings, you can turn on automatic startup when the device boots. Thanks to the Autopilot function, the app is able to restore the VPN connection by itself when the device is switched on or if the connection is lost. Goose VPN can thus be left minimized during the whole time of use, human interaction is not necessary.

   Thanks to the Trusted Networks feature, it is possible to create a list of wi-fi networks on which the VPN will not be used. This is practical, for example, for secure home networks where a VPN would unnecessarily slow down the connection. Missing features include a whitelist that allows selected apps and websites to bypass the VPN connection while others access the internet securely.

   Goose VPN does not limit the user in any way by the amount of data transferred, which is standard among paid services.

   Establishing a connection to Goose VPN‘s servers was quick and seamless. For more remote locations, it took a little longer to connect.

   In repeated tests, we measured Goose VPN‘s average download at 49 Mb/s, which is borderline usable for watching streaming video at 4k resolution. Generally, at least 50 Mbps is required for it. The best VPNs in the rankings offer speeds orders of magnitude faster, for example, we measured FastestVPN with an average download of 352 Mb/s.

   The average upload speed was worse for Goose VPN, we measured just 19 Mb/s. This already brings some limitations, for example for backing up bulky files or when torrenting.

   The response time of 54 ms puts Goose VPN in the below-average category. VPNs with the best response times include AdGuard VPN (7 ms) or NordVPN (11 ms). For response as opposed to transfer speed, a lower value is always better.

   Goose VPN provides access to 100 servers in 24 different countries. While such an offer is inferior to the competition, it will be enough for users with lower demands. For example, CyberGhost VPN has 9,264 servers in 89 countries, while ExpressVPN has 3,000 servers in 94 different locations.

   Most of Goose VPN‘s servers are located in Europe, with at least one allocated on each continent. Of the less common countries, servers are available in Bulgaria, Brazil, Japan, and Singapore. Goose VPN has servers located in the US, Canada, the UK, Australia, and South Africa. Of the countries with government censorship occurring, Turkey is in operation.

   Goose VPN‘s servers are physically located in a given location, none of them are virtual. Some VPN operators use virtual servers that are physically located in a different country than the one displayed in the app.

   All features and protocols offered are fully supported in all locations. In addition, Goose VPN operates servers specifically optimized for torrenting and for streaming content.

   In terms of security, Goose VPN ranks as an average VPN. The app supports DNS leak protection, which prevents the user’s real IP address from being revealed during the connection. It proved to be functional during testing.

   Kill switch is implemented in Goose VPN only in Autopilot mode. The feature disconnects the device from the Internet in case the connection to the VPN server is lost. This prevents the user’s real IP address and location from being revealed.

   The Goose VPN app gives users a choice of four protocols: OpenVPN, IKEv2, L2TP and PPTP. The latest WireGuard protocol is not available. The transmitted data is protected by 256-bit AES encryption.

   Goose VPN does not support the advanced multi-hop feature, where the connection is routed through two different VPN servers simultaneously. Should the first layer of protection be overcome, the user is still protected by the connection through the second server.

   Server connections via Tor are not supported by Goose VPN. The same applies to user account security with two-factor authentication at login.

   Goose VPN offers specially optimized servers for streaming purposes to improve access to geo-blocked content. The servers are located in the US, the UK and the Netherlands.

   In our testing, we were able to unblock approximately half of the streaming services. We were successful with Netflix, YouTube and Hulu platforms, where we were able to play video not normally available here. With minimal slowdown and an average download speed of 49 Mb/s, 4K playback was possible.

   We were unsuccessful when trying to unblock foreign libraries on Amazon Prime Video, Disney Plus and HBO. The services detected an active VPN and blocked our access.

   Some streaming platforms try to prevent VPN use by blocking their IP addresses. A partial solution at that point may be to disconnect from the server and reconnect, changing the IP address to another that may no longer be on the block list. Alternatively, we recommend using the most well-known VPNs like NordVPN or Surfshark, which don’t have any issues with unblocking streaming platforms.

   Goose VPN focuses purely on running a virtual private network, it doesn’t offer any other extra features to users in the subscription price. No ad blocking, malware or tracker blocking is available.

   Goose VPN does not support camouflage mode. Its advantage is the ability to hide an active VPN connection from the ISP and website operators. This allows you to connect to a VPN even in places where this activity is undesirable.

   A static IP address is available on the Goose VPN servers, which always remains the same and does not change after connecting or disconnecting from the server.

   For an additional fee, you can add the Cyber Alarm antivirus solution from the same creators to the VPN. Cyber Alarm works on a slightly different principle than regular antivirus programs by continuously monitoring all Internet traffic. It compares the transmitted data against a database of known viruses and threats.

    Like most apps, Goose VPN doesn’t put too much load on the device and thus doesn’t have a negative impact on the comfort of use.

    After shutting down, the app continues to run in the background, which minimizes the performance requirements when it only uses the operating memory. You can exit the app completely via hidden icons, and the same goes for the mobile version of the app.

    Goose VPN runs servers specifically optimized for torrenting, they are labeled P2P in the list. The servers are located in the US, the UK and the Netherlands. All have a static IP address.

    Our average download speed of 49 Mb/s and upload speed of 19 Mb/s is rather insufficient for torrenting purposes. A more suitable solution is provided by NordVPN with an average download speed of 183 Mb/s or CyberGhost VPN with our measured speed of 167 Mb/s.

    By activating a VPN when transferring torrents, you can increase your level of security by protecting your IP address from the eyes of other users. With VPN protection, even your ISP won’t know you’re downloading torrents.

The police and intelligence services of these countries monitor internet traffic and pass the information they receive between them in case of suspicion of, for example, a threat to national security. The sharing of data between members of the alliance serves to combat security threats.

    Goose VPN states that it has a zero logging policy. Thus, it does not store any logs when using the app and does not store sensitive user information such as IP addresses, websites visited, device identifiers or DNS queries.

    Only the data necessary to manage the user account, such as name, email address and password, is collected. This information, along with payment information, is necessary to create an account and use the service. Goose VPN is not verified by an independent third party and therefore these statements cannot be considered 100%. An independent audit would be beneficial to the credibility of the VPN.

    The Goose VPN app will store the user’s IP address upon first login to prevent possible account abuse or attempts to register from blocked addresses. At the same time, there is no known case of user data being leaked or Goose VPN handing over data to the police or the courts.

    Goose VPN uses servers with hard drives that allow for long-term data storage. To ensure a higher level of anonymity, servers equipped with RAM memory only are preferable, as they do not allow long-term data storage as a matter of principle. The information on them is continuously overwritten and deleted, for example, when the server is restarted.

    How fast is Goose VPN?

    A number of factors affect the connection speed achieved, such as the server chosen or the quality of the user’s internet connection. During testing, Goose VPN kept connection speeds on local servers to a minimum.

    In the speed test, we achieved an average download speed of 49 Mb/s and an average upload speed of 19 Mb/s. Connecting to remote servers took a few seconds, a phenomenon common to most VPNs on the market.

    Does Goose VPN offer a free trial?

    No, the trial version of the app is not available with Goose VPN.

    However, Goose VPN does offer a money-back guarantee for the first 30 days after purchase. You don’t need to give a reason for using it, however, the amount of data transferred must not exceed 100 MB. If it exceeds this, the Goose VPN operator may reject the refund request according to the terms and conditions.

    Can Goose VPN unblock Netflix?

    During our testing, we were able to access content from the Netflix streaming platform, which is only available in the US. Goose VPN has specially adapted servers for this purpose and allows you to watch content that is geo-blocked.
