AzireVPN Only Runs Servers With RAM

    • Lack of independent party authentication of the service
    • App offers very few features and protocols
    • Low number of servers (78) and countries (18)
    • Supports only basic platforms
    • The company is based in a country that is part of the 14 Eyes alliance
    • Application is in English only
    • Servers use RAM memory only
    • It does not store data about its users
    • Unblocked Netflix, Disney+ and HBO in test
    • Subscriptions can be paid with cryptocurrencies

The fee-based service AzireVPN is operated by Sweden-based Netbouncer AB. The AzireVPN places great emphasis on protecting the privacy of its users, and therefore stores virtually no data beyond that necessary to create an account.

Despite the heavy emphasis on privacy and security, AzireVPN is consistently no match for the best VPN providers such as NordVPN or Surfshark. The AzireVPN application is in English only, offers almost no features, and the number of server sites is limited.

The AzireVPN app is only available for the most common devices. Only the modern WireGuard protocol is supported, but even with it, the transfer speeds of AzireVPN proved to be below average. While they are sufficient for normal internet activity, they are not sufficient for torrent sharing or streaming 4K video. All of these shortcomings cost AzireVPN points in the rating, so the overall grade was only 6.0/10.

In the test, AzireVPN successfully unblocked streaming platforms Netflix, HBO Max, Disney Plus and YouTube.

All in all, AzireVPN is a below-average VPN, and may appeal to users who place a premium on their privacy during normal internet use, for example.

  2. AzireVPN Subscription: Discount Code, Free Trial, Money Back Guarantee…

    • Your Price: $10.6650% off  $5.33 /mo (5 devices)
    • Money Back Guarantee: Yes (7 days)
    • Free Trial: No
    • Cryptocurrency payments:
      Yes
      Bitcoin :Yes
      Dash :No
      Ethereum :No
      Ripple :No

AzireVPN offers three different subscription options.

The first option is the classic monthly subscription, which you can cancel at any time during the month. The subscription price is $10.66 per month, this is the least expensive option.

The other option is a three-month subscription, which offers a better price than the monthly option. The best option is the annual subscription, which will only cost you $5.33 per month if you pay the full amount upfront.

Trial version AzireVPN is not available. If you want to try the service, you always have to pay something for it and then possibly take advantage of the money-back guarantee.

The AzireVPN supports several ways to pay for your subscription, debit or credit card and Paypal are commonplace. These payment methods are covered by a money-back guarantee within 7 days of purchase.

Alternative subscription payment methods include cash and the cryptocurrencies Bitcoin, Dogecoin, Litecoin and Monero. If you choose to pay in cash, you must take the risk of losing your shipment. This is because, somewhat bizarrely, the money is sent in a username envelope to the headquarters address AzireVPN. Alternative payment methods are not covered by the money-back guarantee.

With one subscription, AzireVPN can be used on 5 different devices simultaneously. The number of supported devices cannot be expanded for money.

The AzireVPN application is only available for the most common device types. Desktop devices running Windows, macOS and Linux and mobile devices running Android and iOS are supported. Use on Linux computers is subject to special settings, which are described in the instructions on the AzireVPN website.

This ends the list of supported systems. The AzireVPN cannot be used on routers, smart TVs, game consoles, or devices like Raspberry Pi or NAS.

The AzireVPN extension is not available for any web browser.

  4. AzireVPN App: User-friendliness, whitelist, server selection…

    • App Languages: 🇺🇸 English
    • Whitelisting:
      No
Whitelisting is supported by 52 % of reviewed VPNs

Access to AzireVPN is only possible with an existing user account, you can create one using your email and password. Login via Facebook or Google account is not possible.

The interface of the app on a mobile device and on a computer has an almost identical appearance. The app AzireVPN is only available in purple, switching between dark and light mode is not supported.

The status of the VPN connection is displayed on the splash screen. After selecting a location, the application connects immediately, you can also simply select the last used server via the on/off button. The entire app worked seamlessly during our testing, it was smooth and jam-free. There is no limit to the amount of data transferred with AzireVPN.

Compared to the competition, AzireVPN lags far behind in terms of features. Virtually the only feature available in the settings is the display of debug messages, once activated, detailed logs of the application’s operation will be displayed at that location. The messages are useful in case of complications with the application, when they can be forwarded to customer support, and thanks to them the problem can be fixed. They have no meaning for the average user.

Additionally, the Exclude LAN feature can be enabled in the mobile app AzireVPN to ensure that traffic on the local network does not pass through the VPN connection.

Among the relatively common features missing from AzireVPN is the ability to automatically start and connect to the VPN when the device is powered on.

While the kill switch feature is not directly supported in the settings, it worked to our surprise during VPN testing. When switching locations, the kill switch was automatically activated, so we subsequently tried simulating the loss of internet connection. In this case it also worked correctly. The kill switch protects the user from location and IP address disclosure by immediately disconnecting the device from the Internet when it loses connection to the VPN server.

So we contacted AzireVPN support to ask how the kill switch support actually works. We were told that the feature is not yet supported by the application, but they plan to add it. For now, the kill switch is handled by the application settings and the WireGuard protocol, which intercepts all connections to the server.

This concludes the list of features supported by AzireVPN applications. Missing, for example, is whitelisting, which allows you to set up websites and apps that won’t access the Internet via VPN even when the connection is activated.

The AzireVPN app is only in English, it is not available in any other languages.

  5. AzireVPN Connection Speed: Upload, Download & Latency

    • Traffic limit: Unlimited

    Download speed

    Upload speed

    Server latency

AzireVPN offers unlimited data transfer, a standard among paid VPNs.

Connecting to servers was fast and seamless during testing. The AzireVPN only supports the modern WireGuard protocol, which is generally fast. We took repeated speed measurements on different servers during testing AzireVPN, yet the average speeds achieved are still below average in the context of all reviewed VPNs.

The AzireVPN achieved an average download speed of 29 Mb/s. Such a value is insufficient, for example, for 4K video playback, where at least 50 Mbps is stated as necessary.

Even the average measured upload speed 9 Mb/s is not suitable for sharing torrents or large amounts of data. For example, FastestVPN achieved the upload speed of 254 Mb/s in the test.

The response speed of AzireVPN 154 ms is insufficient for computer gaming, video calling, or other activities that require low response times. Unlike transfer speeds, lower is better for response rates. The best VPNs have significantly lower response times, for example NordVPN we measured 11 ms, AdGuard VPN had only 7 ms.

Thus, AzireVPN is only usable for normal Internet activity such as browsing websites or replying to emails. It is unsuitable for unblocking streamed video or torrenting.

For video unblocking or gaming purposes, we recommend preferring NordVPN or Surfshark. Both offer significantly better transfer speeds, excellent levels of security, and successfully unblocked all streaming platforms in the test.

  6. AzireVPN Server Locations

    • Number of servers:
      78
The average number of servers for the reviewed VPNs is 1699.
    • Number of countries:
      18
The average number of countries available for the reviewed VPNs is 41.
    Europe 🇩🇰 Denmark 🇫🇮 Finland 🇫🇷 France 🇮🇹 Italy 🇩🇪 Germany 🇳🇱 Netherlands 🇳🇴 Norway 🇷🇴 Romania 🇬🇧 United Kingdom 🇪🇸 Spain 🇸🇪 Sweden 🇨🇭 Switzerland 🇺🇦 Ukraine
North America 🇨🇦 Canada 🇺🇸 USA
    South America
Asia 🇭🇰 Hong Kong 🇸🇬 Singapore 🇹🇭 Thailand
    Africa
    Oceania

AzireVPN has 78 servers allocated in 18 countries around the world.

While this is below average compared to other VPN services, the total number of servers is only one of the quality parameters. There are several reasons for the low number of countries and servers AzireVPN. The provider of the service takes pride in the security of its users; it creates all security itself without any third-party intervention. All IP addresses are placed behind NAT, all servers are physically located in the country and contain only RAM memory, which does not allow long-term data storage. Securing servers at this level is very costly.

Most of the servers AzireVPN are located in Europe, supplemented by a few sites in Asia and North America. The available locations include the USA, UK, France, Italy, Germany and Singapore, but Australia and New Zealand are not among the available locations. Of the countries with state censorship, only Thailand is available.

Automatic connection to the fastest server at any given time AzireVPN is not supported. The server location can be selected from a list, and a specific city is shown for each country. While AzireVPN does not support saving locations to a favorites list, given the relatively small number of countries, the feature is dispensable.

All AzireVPN servers are physically located in a given country, none of them are virtual. Each of the AzireVPN servers also fully supports all features available in the application. OpenVPN and WireGuard protocols are offered, however, you cannot switch between them. If the device supports the option to connect via WireGuard, it is always used. The OpenVPN protocol is basically used only as a fallback.

The AzireVPN does not run specially optimized servers for, for example, torrenting or watching streamed content. No available servers restrict P2P connections or torrent downloads in any way.

  7. AzireVPN Security Features: DNS Leak Protection, Kill Switch…

    • DNS leak protection :
      Yes
DNS leak protection is offered by 92% of the reviewed VPNs.
    • Kill Switch:
      Yes
Kill Switch is supported by 87% of the reviewed VPNs.
    • Multi-Hop:
      No
Multi-Hop connection is offered by 20 % of the VPNs reviewed.
    • Tor:
      No
Tor support is offered by 19 % of the reviewed VPNs.

The basic security feature of AzireVPN is DNS leak protection, during testing our IP address was reliably hidden.

With the kill switch function, the situation is more complicated. Although it cannot be found in the settings and is not officially supported, the kill switch worked correctly when switching between servers or during a simulated connection failure. We contacted technical support and they replied that the feature is not yet directly supported, but it will appear in the application soon.

Provisionally, it only works in conjunction with the WireGuard protocol, where the settings cannot be changed. The kill switch protects user privacy by immediately disconnecting the device from the Internet in the event of a connection failure to the VPN server.

The use of AzireVPN is not supported on the Tor network, nor is multi-hop connectivity (sometimes known as Double VPN). The principle of multi-hop is to connect through two different VPN servers simultaneously, which increases the level of security.

Two-factor authentication for better user account security AzireVPN is not supported.

  8. AzireVPN & Streaming: Netflix, YouTube, Amazon Prime…

    • Amazon Prime:
      No
Amazon Prime streaming is supported by 52 % of reviewed VPNs
    • Disney+:
      Yes
Disney+ streaming is supported by 53 % of reviewed VPNs
    • HBO:
      Yes
HBO streaming is supported by 57 % of reviewed VPNs
    • Hulu:
      No
Hulu streaming is supported by 49 % of reviewed VPNs
    • Netflix:
      Yes
Netflix streaming is supported by 67 % of reviewed VPNs
    • YouTube:
      Yes
YouTube streaming is supported by 97 % of reviewed VPNs

AzireVPN is not suitable for watching video from streaming platforms.

During testing, we were able to unblock foreign libraries on Netflix, YouTube, Disney+ and HBO Max. We were unsuccessful in repeated attempts to watch US content on Amazon Prime Video and Hulu.

The AzireVPN service does not operate any servers specifically optimized for streaming video. Moreover, our measured average download speed 29 Mb/s is insufficient for the purpose of watching high-resolution video. For example, for 4K video playback, a speed of at least 50 Mbps is generally stated as necessary.

Better support for unblocking foreign libraries is offered by NordVPN, Surfshark or CyberGhost VPN. Together they guarantee high transfer speeds, unblock all tested platforms and provide an excellent level of security.

  9. Features of AzireVPN: AdBlock, Static IP…

    • Blocks Ads:
      No
Ad blocking is offered by 44 % of the VPNs reviewed.
    • Blocks Malware:
      No
Malware blocking is offered by 33 % of the VPNs reviewed.
    • Blocks Trackers:
      No
Trackers blocking is offered by 38 % of the VPNs reviewed.

Advanced ad blocking, malware or tracker blocking features are not available in AzireVPN.

Nor does AzireVPN support the camouflage mode, which can hide VPN usage from the ISP. This feature is offered, for example, by Surfshark or PrivateVPN.

A static IP address is not available with AzireVPN even for an additional fee. The only available solution is a dynamic IP address, which will always change when reconnecting to the server.

No other additional features are available for the standard subscription AzireVPN.

  10. AzireVPN‘s CPU usage and App Performance

Like most VPN apps, AzireVPN does not overload the device or limit user activity.

When the app is shut down, the process moves to the background, which minimizes the performance requirements since only RAM is being used at that point. To completely shut down the app, you need to click on the option in the hidden icons, the same procedure applies to the mobile version.

  11. AzireVPN Torrenting Servers

    • Torrenting servers:
      Yes
Torrenting support is offered by 89 % of the reviewed VPNs.

AzireVPN supports P2P file sharing on all its servers without any restrictions. At the same time, no server is specifically optimized for torrenting.

The advantage of AzireVPN is a relatively good level of privacy for the user when all servers used are equipped with RAM only. No data generated when using AzireVPN is stored. On the other hand, AzireVPN does not offer a static IP address and the important security feature of the kill switch is only available unofficially.

Our measured download speed 29 Mb/s and upload speed 9 Mb/s is insufficient for torrenting purposes. We consider better VPNs for torrenting such as CyberGhost VPN or Ivacy VPN, which have higher transfer speeds and more security features.

  12. What is the country of origin of AzireVPN?

    • VPN Provider: Netbouncer AB
    • Country of origin: 🇸🇪 Sweden

AzireVPN is operated by Netbouncer AB, based in Sundbyberg, Sweden, and the service was launched in 2012. Netbouncer AB specializes in Internet security, and in addition to operating VPNs, it also develops its own routers. Its other brands include FlashBackVPN and Encrouter.

The operator’s AzireVPN headquarters in Sweden may pose a risk to some users. The country is part of the 14 Eyes alliance, whose members can share information among themselves about internet users who pose a security threat.

The AzireVPN only stores data necessary to create and maintain a user account, such as an email address or password. This is the only one it can simultaneously hand over to state authorities in the event of a legitimate challenge. The service does not store data from users’ Internet activity or IP addresses.

  13. AzireVPN and Privacy: Logging Policy, Security Issues…

    • No-Logs Policy:
      Yes
The No-Logs Policy is followed by 78% of reviewed VPNs.

AzireVPN only stores the email address, password, and username needed to maintain the account and use the service. That’s all. Thus, the data collected does not include IP addresses, websites visited, data transmitted or IP addresses. In addition, AzireVPN allows you to request all the personal data that the operator keeps on the user.

All AzireVPN servers use only RAM memory, which does not support long-term data storage. This significantly increases the level of security of AzireVPN, as the operator has nothing to release in case of a legitimate request.

So far, there are no known cases of personal data leakage or information that the operator AzireVPN has transferred or sold the personal data collected.

An even higher level of privacy of AzireVPN would benefit from the support of multi-hop functionality and independent third-party auditing of the service.

  14. AzireVPN Support: Chat, e-mail…

Contacting technical support at AzireVPN can only be done via the support@azirevpn.com email address. We received responses to our queries fairly quickly, with the longest wait time being two days. Unfortunately, live chat with support is not available for AzireVPN.

You can still find a section on the AzireVPN website with frequently asked questions and useful information regarding VPNs. A guide is also available to help you download and configure the service on different types of devices.

  15. AzireVPN FAQ

    Is AzireVPN secure?
Although AzireVPN is not independently audited, it places a high value on the privacy of its users. The service collects only the data needed to maintain a user account, in the range of email address, username and password. No data or logs are collected when using AzireVPN. All AzireVPN servers are equipped with RAM memory only, which does not even allow long-term data storage.

So far, we have also not registered any information about possible sale of user data or other security issues.

    Is AzireVPN free?
AzireVPN is a paid service run by the Swedish company Netbouncer AB. The price of the most favourable subscription option AzireVPN is $5.33, conditional on payment of the full period in advance. All orders paid by card and PayPal are subject to a money-back guarantee of 7 days.
    Is AzireVPN a good VPN?
With a rating of AzireVPN/10, 6.0/10 ranks as a below average VPN. Among the strengths of AzireVPN is the strong emphasis on user privacy, when all servers are equipped with RAM only, for example. No logs are generated from the use of AzireVPN and subscriptions can be paid with selected cryptocurrencies.

The AzireVPN lost points in the overall evaluation due to its very limited feature set, low transfer speed and limited choice of sites. The AzireVPN can be considered sufficient for users who care about their privacy during normal internet surfing.
